Lydia's Adoption Document
In Adoption of Children Act 1881 and Amendments thereof:
- Order for Adoption of Child under section 3 -
Colony of New Zealand, Provincial District of Wellington, to wit} Be it remembered that on the second day of November 1887 - Application was made to me Robert Ward Esquire, a Resident Magistrate sitting at Palmerston North, by Martine Dahlström of Stoney Creek, farmer, for an order to adopt Lydia Nicoline Christensen, now aged seven years and five months:- Now I the said Resident Magistrate, having read the application of the said Martine Dahlström, and having heard the evidence of the said Martine Dahlström, and being satisfied that the application is being made with the consent of Anders Christian Christensen, the only surviving parent of the said Lydia Nicoline Christensen, and that the consent of the person to whom the said Martine Dahlström is married, has been given to the said application, and that the applicant is of sufficient ability to bring up such child, and that the interests of the said Lydia Nicoline Christensen will be promoted by such adoption: - do hereby order and adjudge that the said Lydia Nicoline Christensen be adopted by the said Martine Dahlström, and by this order do confer on the said adopted child in addition to the proper name of the said adopted child, the name of "Dahlström" being the name of the adopting parent.
