Email send from Arnes, Norway, at 11:14 am NZ time, on Wednesday, 10 January 2001. Note that Pasotorpet is the 1790s cottage where the family in the novel Johanna's World, shown on our home page originated. Pasokoia is the 1920s cottage on the same property. Neither is occupied nowadays. The objective was to film the cottage for a Norwegian documentary on the family's story.Hello Val and Stan + everyone else who may read this.
I got back "home" tonight after a very funny day's filming. Everything went great up at Pasotorpet, Espen and Morten are pretty cool Norwegians.
Morton's driving skills need some work though, (shit he made me laugh) and even more so when we crashed off the road, but then we were all laughing. After we finished shooting we had some food and hot chocolate in "Pasokoia" then started the drive out of the forest, by then the sun had gone down and the road had become icy, what a combination, a Norwegian and an icy road. Well the conditions got the better of Morten and we slid of the road.
So we were lucky to have that piece of clothing that all Norwegians wear, "mobile phone".
After walking along the road to get better reception, Morten got in touch with one of the neighbours, who came in and pulled the car back onto the road. After a quick chat with the farmer, we were on our way again.
On the way out, we passed a Moose, who was running for the saftey of the forest (must have heard about Morten's driving skills), hahahaha.
Espen also has astronomy as a hobby, so we had lots to talk about while waiting for the tractor. While we were filming the scenery and the moon, Espen told me of the eclipse tonight, so when I got back to Årnes (safetly!!!!!!!!!!!!!), I prepared the camera. It stayed clear for the eclipse and I hope I got some good pics. It was also on TV tonight.
Tom is a little concerned about the food you mentioned, Val, he only wants "Marinated Herrings", I will let him explain his concerns about the food, hehehehe.
Going to have some relaxing days until my "annoying" departure (maybe I can break a leg while skiing).
Bye for now
Russell
