Bogstad Farm, Norway

Bogstad Farm, the home property of Randine Pedersdatter, mother of Anders Christian Christensen, although it would be rather too optimistic to assume that ever she lived in the beautiful homestead on the property, which is shown above.

The property was once the home of Peder Anker (1749-1824), who was the first Norwegian Prime Minister elected after 1814 - the year the Norwegian democratic institution was adopted. An industrialist, Anker owned ironworks in the area.

Bogstad farm was described in a 1958 tourist book as one of Norway's most picturesque estates, and as being located alongside Bogstad lake. The manor house (above) took its 'present' (1958) form during Anker's time., and the house's contents date to that time. For over three hundred years it was in the hands of inter-related families named Leuch, Anker, Wedel Jarlberg and Ekeberg. More recently it has been in the hands of the Norske Folkemuseum, which operate the house and farm as a tourist attraction.
