Polybius 1.39.1 notes that the consuls for this year, Cn. Servilius Caepio and C. Sempronius Blaesus, set out on a naval campaign at the beginning of summer, i.e. c. May. Their term had evidently started at least a few weeks earlier.
The following table gives the dates for Kal. Mai. in this year, for 22-26 intercalations between this year and A.U.C. 564 = 190, the most recent year whose dates are certain:
Number of Intercalations Number of intercalated days Kal. Mai. A.U.C. 501
A.U.C. 501-56422 484-506 22 May - 13 June 253
23 506-529 29 Apr. - 22 May 253
24 528-552 6 - 30 Apr. 253
25 550-575 14 Mar. - 8 Apr. 253
26 572-598 19 Feb. - 18 Mar. 253There was between 24 and 26 intercalations between this year and A.U.C. 564 = 190; most likely 24. The date ranges compatible with the data are highlighted in blue. The preferred solution is bolded.
