God's Promises
God gives us promises to cling to during troubled times. As Christians, we can expect to have difficult times.... " ....Count it all joy, when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience." James 1: 2-3
But, why? If we're saved why should we have trials? To what purpose? My first thought is to Isaiah 55: 9 "For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts higher than your thoughts." It's okay to not understand God's methods......indeed, God works in mysterious ways.
1 Peter 4:12,13 "Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:: But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy."
But, God, in all His wisdom and mercy, gives us promises to hold fast to.....here's just a few of the promises I cling to most!
Isaiah 61: 3 "..to give them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness...."
Romans 8:28 says "And we know that all things work together for good to those that love God, to those who are calledd according to His purpose."
Psalm 55:22 "Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and He shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous."
Jeremiah 33:3 Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thous knowest not."
Isaiah 26:3 "Thous wilt keep him in perfect peace, who's mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee." (I add this one in memory of my loving earthly father, Jack L. Smith..... who I know came to rely on this verse greatly during his long battle with cancer, and who now sits in the glory of the Lord)
Psalm 34:19 "Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivereth him out of them all."
Hebrews 10:23 "Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised)"
Isaiah 43: 1 "...Fear not, for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by name; thou art mine .
The trials we have may purify us, they may be God's way of getting our attention, of drawing us closer to Him, or bringing us to the end of ourselves (you know, when you finally fall on your hands and knees and give up!) God allows Satan to cause strife in our lives, and then God turns it to good for us..if we let Him. Just as gold is purified through fire, so are we........ |
