Chaos. Total chaos. Trees were felled by plasma beams, their crystal homes blown to bits by lasers, human limbs were blown off, death reeked- chaos. Nebula Xai ran for her life. Heat. Everywhere. Time was running out, and only one thing stood in mind- get to her parents. A screech escaped her when an unidentified, bloody arm landed on her shoulder. But the disgust was easily taken over by fear. She had to get to her mother, her father. They were all in danger.
“MOTHER! FATHER! WHERE ARE YOU?!” she cried, searching desperately through the mass of scrambling bodies for her parents. That’s when she began to panic. Her castle, her home…the ruins were in flaming shambles. The last few towers and turrets were crumbling to the ground. The castle was melting. Electric plasma. Nebula cried out in pain as a spear of ice grazed her shoulder. Grabbing her wounded shoulder, she kept on. She had to find something, anything that would lead her to her parents.
“Nebula! Princess! We must get out! Quickly!” her guard Xavier shouted, running towards her through the debris and crowds.
“Mother! Father! Where are they?!” she cried in anguish, fear gripping her heart.
“We must leave! The shuttle is waiting!” Xavier yelled, grabbing for the young princess.
Being small and agile, Nebula dodged his hands easily and ran into the flaming ruins of her home. She ignored Xavier’s cries and looked in vain for her parents. There! In a flash of debris, Nebula hurried to the familiar pattern of her father’s armor.
“Father! Father are you-” her sentence was cut off by her own shriek as her eyes realized who the person was. Indeed it was her father. But if it weren’t for his armor, she would not have known. It seemed as if his skin was taken off him- the doings of an expertly thrown fire lance. “Father! Are you ok?! FATHER!” Nebula shook the older man’s shoulder.
“Neb…go…” he rasped, clinging to the last bits of life left in him.
“No! Father I can’t leave without you!” she sobbed.
“You must…Nebula…take…t-this,” he said painfully.
Nebula took the small ring and closed her hand around it tightly. “Father?”
“You must…find the 10…save Crystalon…” he gasped.
“10? I don’t…I don’t understand, Father,” she whispered, almost sobbing as she watched her father writhing in pain.
“The ring…it will know,” he choked, the end coming near.
“FATHER!” she cried, seeing his head twitch.
“The legend,” the King gasped.
She never got the chance to answer, for Xavier grabbed her and leapt out of the way. A wave of deadly heat spread from where she had just been- as was her father.
Shrieking insanely, the young princess fought the strong guard, attempting to go after her father. Xavier, having more strength, managed to pull her into the black escape pod. The escape hatch closed with an airy hiss.
“I’m sorry Princess Nebula,” he said apologetically. “There’s nothing we can do.”
Sobbing, the young woman bent over, letting her tears fall freely down her burned cheeks. Then she remembered the ring. The crystal band glittered almost as brightly as the sapphire like stone set at the top. She could feel the energy within it. All she had to do was figure out what.
Nebula looked up through the window and her eyes glazed with hate and despair. She watched as the Quentex fighters tore up her homeland. Making out only the leader as the escape pod flew up towards Earth, she radiated hatred as she realized that he wore the Crystalon crown.
