KNOWING THE BIBLE

I. Man has a spirit, God is Spirit, and the Word is Spirit. John 6:63

A. God is Spirit and He wants to enter man’s spirit through the Word. The channel for us to receive God who is the Spirit of life is God’s word for the words which the Lord spoke unto us are spirit and are life.

B. To receive God’s word is to receive Spirit and life and to reject God’s word is to reject Spirit and life. We can receive water supply through the pipeline; likewise, we can only receive Spirit and life through the word of God. We must therefore open ourselves tot he word of God with all our heart that we may become men filled with God, Spirit and life.

II. The Spirit of God enters into man’s spirit through the Word. 1 Pet. 1:23

A. When the Spirit of God through the Word enters into man’s spirit, man is regenerated.

B. To be regenerated means the eternal and divine life of God has been added into man’s temporal and human life making all the believers the children of God and partakers of God’s divine nature and heirs of God’s kingdom.

C. The word of God as an incorruptible seed contains eternal life. A seed is a container of life. Life is within every seed, which is why a seed can grow unlike a piece of rock that is lifeless.

D. Every heart of man is a soil and every word of God is an incorruptible seed. A believing heart is a good soil for God’s word to grow. The Bible says, what you sow you shall reap. If you sow the word of God into your heart by reading and hearing His word, you shall reap eternal life.

III. The Word is spiritual milk, the food of life, the word feeds our spirit, makes our life grow. 1 Pet. 2:2; Matt. 4:4

A. All regenerated believers having received a new life from God have been born spiritually. As newly born babes we need spiritual growth.

B. Proper growth comes from proper eating and drinking. Man does not live on bread alone but on every word of God that proceeds out through the mouth of God. God’s word is our spiritual food. Only the word of God is our solid food and guileless milk that can supply our spirit for our growth in life.

C. Today there are so many Christians who have believed and received the Lord for years already yet are still babes. They are dwarf because they do not eat and drink God’s word properly. Eating is a daily matter. No matter how strong you were yesterday, you naturally become weak if you will not eat today. No matter how busy we are, we need to find time to eat. We need to eat and drink God’s word everyday that we may live and be strong in spirit and constantly grow unto salvation.

IV. The Word is also the light enlightening us, so there are no obstacles to our growth in life. Psalms 119:130

A. The word of God brings light and without His word there is darkness. A man without God’s word is in darkness. His mind and heart are darkened. He does not know God’s will, he has no direction in life, and does not know the meaning of life.

B. Being the children of God we need to walk in the light. God’s word is light. We need to read His word everyday just as we need the sunlight everyday. The more sunshine the more plants grow, likewise, the more God’s light shines upon and within us the more our spiritual life grows.

C. A person who reads the word of God is in the light and walks a life under the shining of God’s light. Therefore, we need to read the word of God with a simple heart that it may bring us light and understanding. We need to realize that God is everything and without Him as the living Word we are nothing.

D. We have to open the windows of our house to let the light of the sun come in. Likewise, we have to open our heart when we read God’s word so that God’s light can fill every part of our being. God’s light can penetrate and enlighten our mind and heart and even the inner most part of our being. The more we are enlightened the more we can understand God’s eternal purpose and what life is all about.

E. God is light and Satan is darkness. Only light can overcome darkness. We need to live under the shinning of God’s word that we may overcome Satan. He who does not have God’s word is under Satan’s blinding, deceiving, and usurping work. A person without God’s word is in darkness and is a child of the devil – a slave of Satan!

F. Even if you already read the Bible one hundred times do not think that you are already somebody. Just remain simple and humble and continue to read you Bible so that God’s word may become the lamp unto your path. Keep the light of God shinning that you may not ever stumble in this dark and evil world.

V. Read the Word with the spirit; that is, receive God in your spirit. Eph. 6:17-18

A. The Spirit of God is embodied in the Word. We can receive the Spirit who is God Himself through the Word by turning our read it, light and life supply.

B. Call upon the name of the Lord, pray and read the word of God every time you rise up early in the morning before doing anything else. If you do this faithfully, your Christian life will grow healthy; spontaneously light will shine in your life and darkness shall flee away!

VI. Have a set time and schedule in reading and praying the word of God. Col. 3:16

A. The Lord desires that His word may dwell in us richly. The more Word we have the more we can enjoy life, the Spirit, light and life supply.

B. Call upon the name of the Lord, pray and read the word of God every time you rise up early in the morning before doing anything else. If you do this faithfully your Christian life will grow healthy; spontaneously light will shine in your life and darkness shall flee away!
