Francesca trained at Tanya Bayona Princess Poutiatine Academy Malta and the London Contemporary Dance School in the U.K. Through her extensive dance background in contemporary dance, classical ballet, jazz dance, stagecraft, movement studies, improvisation, choreography and other associated dance realted subjects, she has over the last 13 years trained dancers for both local performances, overseas festivals, choreographic platforms and competitions. Her choerographic work has been performed in Malta, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, France, Lithuania,Portugal and Turkey.
Francesca thrives to raise the profile of dance on the island of Malta and hopes to exploit its talent and encourage it to pursue its cultural identity through travel. She believes that dance is an integral part of our education and is presently persisting to bring it into the curriculum of all academic schools on the island. Francesca collaborates with local theatres in hosting foreign dance companies to perform, give lectures and workshops to inspire all artists and fuse the performing arts.
Francesca founded 'CONTACT DANCE COMPANY' in 1999 after, many years of choreographing for other local companies. She was resident choreogrpaher for Tanya Bayona Dance Threatre for 9 years. She now focuses her work on Contact Dance Company by investing in outside influences and sources to further training the company in music and theatre expression constantly discovering new innovative material.
Francesca teaches the foundations of the Graham and Cunningham techniques, developing into release work, contact and improvisation. This accessible technique has become one of the core components/base training for the professional verstile dancers. Her classes lead to fluid dance phrases, ulitising basic dance knowledge to develop centre, alignment and encouraging individual discovery and creativity of movement.
