1. *** MESSAGE FROM THE EDITOR ***

This month and through the summer we are focussing on increasing our membership of Community Leaders (CL) or Cosmic Volunteers (CV). So, you ask, what do we do?

We help people, build and maintain our community and create all the activities and services you see offered in this newletter and more. The rewards of being a CL are the feelings of accomplishment and pride that you get when you help other people build their sites and the occasional heartfelt thanks. You will also make great friends, have a lot of fun, and get the personal satisfaction of helping your neighbors and increasing your own knowledge along the way! You will form friendships and respect for home page owners and CLs alike, and you will find that you have more to offer than you ever thought possible. You also increase your own personal enjoyment of the www at least ten-fold!

Currently the Area51 F.A.C.L. is made up of about 40 community leaders. We have our websites in Terrashare, Worldnet, Xoom, Geocities, Crosswinds, Tripod, Fortunecity, Spaceports, and many others. Interested? Contact me at ladywight@yahoo.com for more information.

LadyWight, editor.

3. *** AREA 51 CONTESTS UPDATE***

June Contest promos

Due to its popularity, the Great Trek Scavenger Hunt will continue at
least through the second week of June, as will the SF Logo Matching Contest.
On June 1st we will begin a Fantasy Scavenger Hunt, which will run
through the middle of July. Contestants will search the web for a variety of
Fantasy images. More Scavenger Hunts will follow throughout the summer and into Fall.

June 1st will also herald the unveiling of our summer writing contest:
The Alien Race Profile. Each contestant will make up their own Alien
Race—the way they look, customs, their planet or planets, and anything else you
can come up with to make your alien real! This contest will run until the
end of August. We’re really looking forward to seeing what people come up
with
.
As always, winners of all contests will receive a cool, one-of-a-kind
graphic to place on their site, courtesy of our talented Contest Committee
members. In addition, top winners of multiple scavenger hunts will receive
the Grand Prize of an electronic copy of Tears Of Ao, a novel by our
Liaison, Larry the Maniac. Plus, the very best Of the Alien Race Projects
will be printed in Hood Happenings, our official Area51 Newsletter.

This section is an update of the theme groups that are being developed in Area51. If you are interested in participating in any of these groups, please contact the me at ladywight@yahoo.com and I will get your message to the right group.

Area51 Zone CC will house links for SF/F humorous sites, movie links, TV
links, book links, interesting quizzes, puzzles and contests, and a unique
aspect of converted pictures and graphics that are SF/F related but
humorously changed. The concept of the site to assist, share and enjoy these
type of sites. (http://www.oocities.org/area51_zone/)

Area51 HomeWorld will be the home of warriors from all aspects of SF/F. It
will be a place to allow those who have an interest in a specific warrior
culture to share with other warrior types. This site will take a bit longer
to put together but should provide an informative view of SF/F's warrior
cultures.

Area51 Public Relations will be a site that is devoted to the concept of
spreading the word about Area51 and provide a list of resources that can be
used to promote sites in different newsletters and newsgroups. The actual
site is not established as of yet and volunteers are eagerly sought.

The Aurora and Labyrinth Community Centers are offering awards to the
best sites within their theme groups. These much sought after awards are
created by our talented graphic artists and personalized for each winner. If
