Simplifie th Eenglish laengwaj?

Push for simpler spelling persists - Yahoo! News

Personally, I abhor this form of the language.  Yes, the English language is absurd and full of "silent letters", double letters, and more exceptions than rules, but it is LEGIBLE.  When I tried to read portions of this article written in "simple English", I had to slow down and sound them out in my head.  I couldn't 'skim' like I normally do when reading, because I had to figure out what each word was before I could move on to the next.  Eventually, I came to realize that 'th' was 'the', but it did not help with many other words, such as "pashunet".

Oh, while I'm certain the many people who can't read without sounding words out would be thrilled, I can't help but feel this is a literacy cop-out.  "Oh, letz maek this eezeeyer for evreewun beecauz sum uv us ar too stooped too lern too riet and speek properlee."

Give me a break.  I have enough difficulty understanding the jerks on World of Warcraft who can't spell properly.
