And to All a Good Night
Part 1 of 1
Synopsis: "The Night Before Christmas", SGC-style. Set in season
eight, mentions ranks of characters with one brief reference to "Affinity".
Response to challenge issued by Tori S., who wanted a poem like "Seussified" to
the tune of the famous poem by Clement Moore.
And to All a Good Night
'Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the base
Few things were stirring (and those moved at slow pace).
In the Control Room, a techie hovered so near
To the alarm if a Snake or Jaffa should appear.
Sam Carter was nestled all snug in her lab
With an alien 'doohickey' even she thought was drab.
Daniel had a tablet that was found by his team
He'd translated, then joined Teal'c in kel'no'reem.
Jack O'Neill, he was buried right up to his nose
With papers, proposals, and memos verbose.
When out in the 'Gate room there arose such a racket
The guards raised their guns should they need to attack it.
But down from the silo a man did rappel,
Who allayed all their fears for they knew him quite well.
He touched down on the floor and grabbed up a phone
And proceeded to page with a no-nonsense tone:
"Sam Carter and Teal'c! Doctor Jackson and Jack!
Colonels Reynolds and Pearce! Listen up, all, I'm back!
Sergeants Alberts and Turner! Siler and Harriman!
Westerholm and Graham Simmons, and every airman!
"Come down to the 'Gate room, I've got something to tell.
Get down here, I say!" And they all ran, pell-mell.
And what to their wondering eyes should they see,
But General George Hammond at the SGC!
He was clad in a suit made of red, trimmed with white,
Which on the portly, bald general, was an incredible sight!
On his back was a sack which bulged at the seams,
Full of gifts for the scientists, soldiers, and teams.
"O'Neill!" Hammond cried, as he opened his sack,
And a brightly wrapped package was given to Jack.
"Carter!" he shouted, and pulled out another.
"Doctor Jackson! And Teal'c!" Two big gifts joined the other.
He called out their names as he reached in the bag
And presented each present labeled with a neat tag.
"Well, open them up!" grinned Hammond when through,
Which the people thus gifted proceeded to do.
Carter tore into hers and nearly did drool
At the sight of a spiffy new strangely-shaped tool.
"Thanks, this is great!" she shouted with joy
And sat down on the floor to play with her new toy.
"Oh, wow!" Daniel cried with a delighted gasp.
An oversized volume was held in his grasp.
The title he read so that everyone heard
DiscoveriesofAncientSumeria as one big-honkin' word.
"My thanks, General Hammond," Teal'c effused with a bow,
"These candles are needed in my quarters right now.
I have allowed all my others to burn down too far
Now I need not be wary that my floor I will char."
When his package was opened, O'Neill gave a yell:
A GPS tracker, which was labeled "Daniel".
"The next time he gets snatched by the Trust or some-such,
I can find him with this! General—George—thanks a bunch!"
The gifts that he'd brought were really well-planned
And thanks were given from all to Hammond.
"I'm glad that you like them," he said with a smile
And everyone begged him to stay for a while.
"Duty calls," he sighed, as he tugged on his rope,
But his words as he parted did give them all hope:
They all heard him say, as he rose out of sight,
"Merry Christmas, to all, and to all a good night!"
