Father Time

"Father Time" is a 16mm scale clockwork-powered locomotive by Chris MacKenzie in the U.K. You got to love that name!

This is a wonderful little "critter" that uses the Mecanno number 1 motor as the basis, with a body made entirely out of brass. Chris provided some insight on his delighful locomotive : "A lot of thought went into where I could hide the key. In the end I remembered the architectural saying... "If you can't hide it - make a feature of it" - so I did!"

He adds: "At the time I didn't have a Mamod chain, so went for a "direct drive"approach."The reduction gear had to be made narrower, but it makes it run at an ideal 15mph scale speed. The unfortunate thing is that as a consequence, the reversor can no longer be used. However this isn't a problem for me as I only run one way round, and I doubt I'll ever attempt shunting with it!"
