Microsoft 3Q profit jumps 65 percent

By JESSICA MINTZ, AP Business Writer

Thu Apr 26, 9:01 PM ET

SEATTLE - Microsoft Corp.'s fiscal third-quarter profit jumped 65 percent, buoyed by sales of its new versions of Windows and Office and by upgrade coupons for the operating system issued over the holidays. Earnings for the quarter ended March 31 rose to $4.93 billion, or 50 cents per share, from $2.98 billion, or 29 cents per share in same period last year.

Results included legal charges amounting to 1 cent per share, but tax benefits boosted profit by 2 cents per share.

Analysts surveyed by Thomson Financial forecast a profit of 46 cents per share. Revenue for the quarter rose 32 percent to $14.4 billion. Wall Street was looking for $13.89 billion in sales.

Microsoft started selling its newest operating system, Windows Vista, to consumers at the end of January. Its "client" division, responsible for Windows, brought in $5.27 billion in sales, 67 percent higher than a year ago. Microsoft said   it   deferred   $  1.2   billion  in

Windows Vista revenue to the third quarter, to account for upgrade coupons given to PC buyers during the holiday season before the consumer launch of the new operating system. Excluding this figure, client revenue totaled $4.1 billion, 30 percent higher than last year.

"Monetization of search is increasing with our new adCenter platform," said the CFO. "It's still a small base, but it's growing very well.

"Microsoft also said it repurchased more than $6.7 billion in stock during the quarter. For the fiscal fourth quarter, which ends June 30, Microsoft said it will earn 37 cents to 39 cents per share, with revenue of $13.1 billion to $13.4 billion. Wall Street currently expects a profit of 40 cents per share on $13.31 billion in sales. For the full 2007 fiscal year, the company raised its guidance, forecasting a profit of $1.48 to $1.50 per share on sales from $50.9 billion to $51.2 billion.

Congratulation for the profits record high of Microsoft. This news has appeared since April but I just have time to write it now due to some other urgent letters, please forgive me for that.

The date of this letter is 13 June 2007, containing number 13 that is known as the bad luck number to certain people. Which is important to neutralize any notion that the Microsoft profits record high has been because of my writing these letters to you since June 2006. Most of all I never posses any ability to provide good luck to anyone, it is God who has the authority to distribute good lucks to those who strive hard to get it. It is important for me to clarify this other wise I would have trouble in my consent to move to the eternity.

Thailand's "Condom King" Mechai Viravaidya winning US $ 1 million award for Global Health from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation was really an interesting news I found while searching for the photos of your activities at Yahoo Photos. His last name Viravaidya is like containing my name Firman.

Inevitably this fact could inspire some kind of test for me.

Subject:  A Test of Getting Wealthy

With the fact that last name of Thailand's "Condom King" Mechai Viravaidya is like containing my name Firman, and he just won an award of US $ 1 million from your Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, it could inevitably inspire some people to think that it could also become a test for me regarding my consent to move to the eternity.

Some people might say: "Of course he has the consent to move to the eternity, because he is a poor man, he still lives with the financial support of his sister and brother in his 49 years old age. What if he owned much money, for example US $ 2 million, would he still have the consent to move to the eternity for the good of this world?"

If such a test is considered worthy, for the good of this world, I will take it, or maybe I should take it. And I think it is a fair test, otherwise people would think that it is unfair for me to move to the eternity without tasting the temptations of being a wealthy man.

Just give me one year to undergo such test. Whether after having such amount of money I would still consistent with my consent to move to the eternity or I would spend it to have some "condom parties with girls"?

Of course I will also make some kind of agreement legalized by Public Notary that I would not use it to finance any political activity for my self. This is important since Indonesia is now approaching the 2009 election. Nor will I use it to harm or hurt others or any activities that could endangering others.

If after one year I failed the test, then I should give up some of my paintings in return of the fund. But if I could pass the test, then I hope it could increase the value of my moving to the eternity in the eyes of God, and hopefully God would bestow more of God's Mercy and Love to this world for the good of our kind, the human species.
