Lady Minty's Explanation of Princess Spatula:

This was just one of those weird ideas that smack-lands on your brain one lazy afternoon and never quite goes away. ;)

At the area of my page known as Rainbow Groves, I display '98 Pony backcards edited to look like a few of the weirder new MLP identities I've made up. It all started with Demented Daisy, who runs the Grove, and grew from there. One of the pony groups I wanted to spoof was the Princesses (the old as much as the new), and I've always found "spatula" to be a pretty funny word (has to do with an intelligence test from my early childhood), so I put the two together. *poof* Princess Spatula, the Nonsensical Pony, was born.

I finished her backcard awhile ago, and here it is in all its Rainbow Groves glory:

However, the idea of Princess Spatula really appealed to me, and I began to toy with the idea of creating a "real" version. But by then the new MLP line was already becoming scarce in US stores, and I wasn't sure which pony would be most suitable for this custom. Overall, I didn't want to have to reroot hair. I've never rerooted a '98 mold, and I don't plan to. It just looks kinda difficult. Lazy? Me? ;)

The closest I could come up with for a similar hair color was Berry Bright, and she was sold out everywhere.

But then my dad cleaned out the pony supply at a local Toys 'R Us for Christmas of 1999, and I found myself with nearly a dozen extra Tipsy Tulips. And Tipsy's hair looked almost exactly like the kind of pink MLP hair that fades so easily...

So one Tipsy was freed from her packaging and placed in a sunny window for a week. When she was done sunning, her hair was totally white (except for the blue streak, of course). So I painted her purple and carefully recreated Spatula's symbols. Then I took a yellow highlighter and colored her hair so that it was yellow with a green streak (switched from the original picture, but hey, Hasbro was never known for being exact with coloring, so why should I be?). I'm really happy with how she came out. Here are a few pictures:
