Soap Opera Weekly, Early 2004:

General Hospital fans who like the new brunette Carly owe a special thanks to Ted King (Alcazar). "I had asked to go back to my natural color a few times," relates Tamara Braun, "but I was always told no, so I gave up. I thought, 'As long as I'm Carly, I'll be blonde.' " Then one day, while trying on dark wigs in the makeup room, King walked by, liked what he saw, and asked Braun if she had ever asked the higher-ups to let her go back to her chestnut roots. Braun said she had to no avail, and then mentioned that, story-wise, the timing finally seemed right. "When women break up with boyfriends or go through a divorce, they want a change. They tend to go for the hair. Cut it. Color it. Ted said, 'Get your butt upstairs and ask them now. Approach it storywise.' " To Braun's shock, the suits gave her the greenlight. "The first time Rick Hearst (Ric) saw me, he grabbed me, said 'Who's that girl?' and threw me up against the wall as a joke. I took that as a good reaction."
