Dear CFC,
It has been a year since I came up with the idea to have a club for founders of Yahoo clubs. Sure I was not the first one, and perhaps it is not the biggest, but I do like to think it is one of the best. It is one of the best because of all the things we offer, such as Featuring, Graphics, and Quick Advice. But it is also one of the best because you are a member. Remember a club is only as good as the people in it.
The other Founders & I have been thinking of ways to improve the club, but we cannot do this alone. We NEED your input also. We do appreciate the feedback already given, and have already decided to implement chat sessions because of your requests. Please remember though, the chat sessions are not for our benefit, they are for yours. For that reason I hope many of you will find the time to come to chat sessions. It will be a great way to meet other founders, meet the founders of CFC (especially the beloved Angel-Pie), and hopefully learn new ways to improve YOUR club, for that is our goal here, to improve our club so that we can better help your club. By helping us, you help yourselves.
So as the second year of operations begins for CFC, I look forward to seeing what the future has to offer, for our club, and yours.
ArrylT [Founder]
Hi Fellow Founders!
In honor of the first anniversary of CFC, I decided to go over a little back history which might be, well, more a matter of personal insight than a public statement.
Three hundred sixty-three days ago (this is a Leap Year), my long time Internet friend ArrylT said to me: "Come check out my new club." I did (BTW, that picture of him above was taken by me; he just stood still that long for me to do it). Being new to Yahoo! Clubs, generally, though long on-line, I was amazed at the concept--a club for founders of clubs, a place where they could get advice, crab about unruly members, explore Yahoo! features without admitting they don't know to their members, discuss things. And I knew immediately what I could add to the club--a homepage for FAQs and graphics to decorate the clubsite.
Within that first month, we added featuring--the presentation of one member club per week on our clubsite and the preparation of a webpage and graphics for that club displayed on our homepage. It was ArrylT's idea, but I helped. And we settled in on the notion of doing just a few things as well as we could. Most important, we wanted to be sure that no question ever went unanswered if we could help it, even if we had to say: "I don't know, but I'll find out" and that they were answered as promptly as possible (of course, sometimes it is a matter of standing back and letting you field the questions even if I do have ...um, strong opinions of my own...LOL).
Okay, confession time--it took me nearly six months to figure out that we weren't the only founder club in the Yahoo! universe. But, by the time I did, I also realized that there was a niche for us, that we did have some policies and ideas that make us just a little bit different and maybe just a little bit--to toot my own horn--better. In fact, not a few founder-type clubs have come and gone that actually tried to copy us. We must have been doing something right.
Now, some people would be content with that, but I am a former student of the dramatic arts and one thing you learn right off is: "you're only as good as your next show." My next show? This newsletter is a starter, but also consistently bringing you the kinds of services you have come to expect and enjoy here in Club Founders' Club. Of course, I'm always open to new ideas when they offer themselves. You got any?
Here's to a great year to come.
AngelPie_Mouse
[Co-Founder]
Hey, Fellow Founders!
Recently, I have been promoted to co-founder of the Club Founders Club and will be organizing chats for our club. That makes me the "official/unofficial mistress of conversation" (take your pick). My other duties will include greeting all new members--something they didn't have to ask me twice to take on--and just being myself.
I'm really looking forward to contributing to this club and I hope you are too.
Mistybunny [Co-Founder]

On June 17th, Mistybunny, as her first order of business as founder in charge of chat, sent out an e-mail informing you of the addition of a chat schedule to our club activities. Principally, "our new headmistress of conversation" asked three questions:
- when do you want to meet for chat sessions?
- do you want them to be informal chats or on a pre-arranged topic?
- would you be interested in structured chats (that is: with a pre-arranged speaker such as a representative from Yahoo!)?
As yet, response has been light...so answer her, you guys, or she'll think you don't love her. Use Yahoo! Messenger or her e-mail, Mistybunny@Yahoo.Com.
Our first scheduled chat session is this coming Tuesday -- June 27th at 10 p.m. EST, meant to coincide with the anniversary of the club. It will be a "get-to-know-you casual chat." Pajamas and fuzzy slippers are optional as Yahoo! hasn't added webcam to the chat rooms yet. And, please, don't get hyper about their screwy insistence on Voice. You can get into the chatroom without it.

You should see what you're missing? So, we're going to help and maybe tantallize you into joining us by offering you quick synopsis of the discussions that take place during our chat sessions. Of course, this is all predicated on the notion that we actually have chat sessions. So be there or be...

Sometimes we feel we want to wade in on a topic only to realize we just don't know enough or that we don't know what has already been said. Having some pointers to where a discussion started would help, right? That's what a thread digest is all about.
Main discussions (often called threads) over the past thirty (30) days included:
- the addition of the forward message board entries [#1521, Receive messages by email, 5/23/00 1:06 pm],
- announcement of winners in the CFC Horror Story Contest [#1545, Horror Story Contest Results!!!, ArrylT, 5/27/00 12:16 pm],
- proposal of changes to Yahoo! membership designations -- see http://www.wins.ch/valerie/yahooclubs/yahooclubs.html [#1539, A new club membership, valerie008, 5/26/00 7:54 pm],
- my club disappeared, no one wanted to suggest the worst, but it was one of several that weekend [#1557, My club disappeared :-(, miss_smurfette_30, 5/29/00 12:41 am],
- the voice software requirement to use Yahoo! chat [#1591, clubfoundersclub(aka AngelPie_Mouse), 5/31/00 11:07 am],
- quarrelsome members vs. freedom of speech [#1603, Re: CFC Club Horror Story Contest, FreedomDeep, 6/1/00 12:37 am],
- how to make the club experience more personal [#1626, Need my club to get more personal...., Ivoryce, 6/4/00 3:35 pm],
- getting lurkers involved [#1649, New contest idea!, FreedomDeep, 6/9/00 9:30 pm]
- what happened to club backgrounds [#1681, How do you make An Image Background?, apowerfulpeace, 6/10/00 6:59 pm],
- the addition of club colors as a founder feature [#1704, New Feature warning, Mistybunny, 6/11/00 11:13 pm],
- Yahoo! being Yahoo! [#1731, Yahoo! glitch..., Ivoryce, 6/16/00 3:03 pm].
Help Wanted: We're looking for a noble soul who will take the time and trouble to locate the beginning of threads of discussion on a continuing basis over a thirty day period and record them and then send the report our way--sort of a message board reporter. If you would like to do this job, if you're already doing it for yourself and are willing to share, please contact AngelPie_Mouse@Yahoo.Com. We'll give you the by-line to this regular feature of the newsletter.

The rewards for participating in Yahoo! Club Founders' Club just got a little sweeter. Beginning with this announcement, the founders of CFC are going to have to be on their toes, keeping track of who is nice and who is extra nice and helpful and really present for their fellow members. And that person, that one person who really does go out of their way to participate and share, that's the one we're going to name Member of the Month.
Who will be our first Member of the Month? Check out the newsletter this time next month to find out.

If you haven't seen the sort of thing featured clubs get beyond the club logo which appears on our clubsite for a week, then you haven't seen anything yet.
Each week (sometimes monthly), ArrylT reviews and forwards the name or a list of clubs which have requested and meet the guidelines for featuring (see Feature Policy). A full webpage is prepared with fresh graphics, describing the club, displaying over a dozen graphics for clubsite display, and offering banners and more.
The clubs presented over the past thirty (30) days include:

One of the things we like to think sets CFC apart is that we consider the people joining us to be representatives of clubs. It is the club, we feel, that is the actual member of CFC. It is the club that we are trying to promote and improve through review of clubsite, help with webpage design, our webring for homepages, clubsite graphics and featuring, our Member Club Listing, and good old fashioned advice on everything from contests and newsletters to dealing with troublemakers and lurker malaise. Thus, while we welcome the people, we also take an opportunity to welcome the club and the often unique ideas and diversity of interest they represent.

- Mistybunny
Earlier this week, the sweet "bunny-one" announced that her computer was sickie and going into the shop. I didn't know there was a limit to the number of subdirectories one could have in a directory (I wonder how many I have in the CFC directory). The good news is that her 'puter is back now and all set to address the challenge of being our new co-founder. Yeah!
- Kitt3n13
She and her "honey-do" have bought a new house and are getting ready to move toward the end of this summer. That sort of thing always takes a lot of preparation and can be pretty wrenching. We wish her all the best luck.
- mg_revolver_ocelot
On the heels of his success with "I Want to Win A Million Bucks" (no, he didn't get the money, but he did find new members), mg_revolver_ocelot has begun a new club venture, Magic TG Strategy Club. The club is based on the popular trading card game, Magic, the Gathering. Check it out!
- Nowaywins
One of the founders of the Shelties club and proud owner of a female of the breed was presented with four fine puppies this past April. All four little ones have since been adopted and will be going to new homes. Congratulations, Nowaywins!
Have you got some club or personal news you'd like to share? Please forward to AngelPie_Mouse@Yahoo.Com.

In this section in future, we will bring you information about software and technical information to help make your experience of clubs more enjoyable and to share with your members. Sometimes, these tidbits will be the result of investigations of notices from the message board; sometimes, reviews of developments in or little understood features of Yahoo!. All members are invited and encouraged to contribute to this section of the newsletter.
HELP WANTED: Can you log Yahoo! Chat? In IRC, it is a simple matter of clicking an option and all conversation is recorded to a text file which you can later review for important information. But, there doesn't seem to be such an option in Yahoo! Chat. Short of keeping an open Wordpad and laboriously copying the conversation bit by bit, how can one record chat? If you know the answer, write AngelPie_Mouse@Yahoo.Com; if you don't, check in next month to see what we came up with.

What's so special about the Member Club Listing? One of the limitations of Yahoo! clubs is the number of links a club may have in its Links section--only 100 per club. Even with our mere 150-plus membership, that limit fills fast especially as most members have more than one club and a homepage for their club. In most other founder clubs, the Links section becomes a matter of "first come/first serve," with occassional or periodic weeding for clubs that no longer exist or where the person entering the link may not be/may no longer be a member. It may open a space or two, but hardly enough to embrace the entire membership.
We decided that policy was patently unfair to newer clubs, which deserve just as much chance to be seen and recognized. We, also, realized that the Links section provided was difficult to navigate (ponderous page on page), offered no particular order to locate a link, and said very little about the club except its address, name, and founder's name.
We created the Member Club Listing. You'll find it in our Links section, beginning on the second page of links, with alphabetic page references to help you search for a club you may be interested in that much faster. Are you looking for information on "Club Founders' Club?" Click on the link to "Member Club Listing (Clubnames C)," and it will take you to a page listing all clubs which have a club name beginning with the letter "c." From there, just scroll down or use the browser edit features to "find." You will also find the listing linked to on the front page of our homepage.
How do we get the names of clubs? One of the things we ask in the Founders' Message, when you join Club Founders' Club, is that you edit the Comments line in Members next to your name to list the name(s) of the clubs in which you have foundership. Only you can edit this information. Sometimes, when this request is overlooked, we can obtain the information from your posts or from your personal profiles. Sometimes, it is gotten by writing new members and requesting the information either in e-mail or Yahoo! message. Obviously, letting us know--you writing us or entering it in the Members section--is the fastest and least troublesome method.
Please, if you haven't done it yet. Take a moment or two to locate your name in the Members section of the club and edit your comment line. Oh, and BTW, if you did edit per request but haven't looked at your comment line recently, please check to make sure the clubs listed are still good.
