We apologize for the tardiness of this month's newsletter which was supposed to have been published on July 25th. As you may have read on the message board, I had some massive computer problems during most of the month of July. That meant that gathering and condensing information for use in this newsletter was impossible. Now, that I'm back on-line, we'll be resuming our normal (it didn't even get a chance to be established) schedule of publishing on the 25th of each month. Thank you for bearing with us during this small (very small) crisis. We'll try not to let it happen again.

Our next scheduled chat session awaits scheduling while both Mistybunny and ArrylT are on vacation. It will likely be announced for some time between August 15 and September 1st.

We've had three (3) scheduled chat sessions since inaugurating this part of the CFC program on our anniversary.

1 -- Tuesday, July 27th at 10 p.m. EDT.
Announced topic: "LET'S GET ACQUAINTED!"

This first session was poorly attended (Mistybunny, ArrylT, AngelPie_Mouse, and lynne64070) and really didn't meet its expected goal of allowing members to get to know each other although it may have informed Mistybunny that ArrylT and AngelPie_Mouse have a lot of club experience working together despite being from different ends of the continent. The meeting concluded with a Yahoo! glitch that knocked ArrylT and AngelPie_Mouse off-line just as lynne64070 entered. Rescheduling for another day, perhaps to occur once per month, seemed possible.

2 -- Thursday, July 13th at 9:30 EST.
Announced topic: "WHAT'S WRONG WITH YAHOO!"

Members in attendence: mistybunny, AngelPie_Mouse, alska_du, Earth_Moon01, bigguy_green (celticgreen_00), SunShinery, and nowaywins.

This second session was much better attended. During the course of the session, members got to know each other better and drafted a list of wishes to send to Yahoo! Also, during the session, bigguy_green registered for a new ID, changing her name to celticgreen_00.

Our Wishlist

1. Co-founders should have all rights except to delete the club.
2. Founders should have a choice concerning voice chat use or not. It slows down the chat room.
3. Want to be able to kick or boot people from chat without banning them from the club.
4. ALPHABETICAL access to the MEMBERS LIST!!! (links like yahoo addy book).
5. Join date for members as Founders Feature only (Members or Calendar).
6. Notice to founders only when a member quits by ID name so that you know which member quit.
7. Last visit date on a Member ID (founder feature only).
8. Club backgrounds. Not just colors but the background option. Make it easy just like the colors are now!
9. Founder's option to allow mailed posts from the message board for their club.
10. Real people to hear real complaints and ideas to help improve the clubs. Possibly a voluntary peer chat of community leaders from Yahoo! clubs with input to the programming staff.
11. Removal of non-functioning abandoned clubs and profiles. This is a matter of general housekeeping of your database.
12. The Delete Message link...could you please move it a little farther away from the Reply link. New co-founders and people who move back and forth between clubs where they are founders and where they are not will appreciate this one.
13. More than 100 Links, more than 10 per page, and alternative view for alphabetic presentation. Right now, it is almost unusable.
14. Ability for clubsites to join webrings.
15. A coffee dispenser installed in all clubs (and possibly one installed for Tylenol or Ibuprophen, too.) Actually, a customizable gimmick space.

3 -- Monday, July 30th 9 p.m. EDT
Announced topic: "YAHOO! GLITCHES AND OTHER SCARES"

Superceding the announced topic, the news that someone claiming to be a representative of Yahoo! had just opened a founder's club was on everyone's mind. Discussion centered on the notion that Yahoo! was merging services with E-Groups and what impact this might have on club services and features.

Other topics included virus protection, hoax warnings, people who don't know how to bcc:, mistaken changes of category for clubs by Yahoo!, and customizing chat.

The term "thread" comes from the days of EBBs and Usenet/Newsnet. It refers to a series of posts, which may or may not be on topic but begin with the same subject heading. "Re:" on our message board can either be taken as "regarding" or "replying to," for example. Pointing to the beginning of a thread, you can sometimes gleen important bits of discussion pro and con on an issue, allowing you to make a more informed decision. We use the term a little more loosely in Yahoo! clubs, where a response can often be as much off topic as on.

The main concern of this digest is to point to beginnings of threads or significant entries concerning them or important postings that you might want to visit again. We do not bring you the entire post--a complete repost would take far too much space. However, we do offer the entry number, the subject line, name of member posting, date, some overview of the content, and a list of related posts (if any) over a 30 day period (+/-) in the listing below.
