DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME ENDS
Most North American residents will experience that odd disorientation that occurs every Spring and Autumn with the time warping effects of Daylight Savings Time on Sunday, October 29th at 1 a.m. (that's still Saturday for you late night animals).
The change from Daylight Savings Time to Standard Time follows this simple rule: "Fall Back!," meaning you must set your clocks back one hour from 1 a.m. to midnight throughout your house, on your microwave, VCR, and computer (on some computers this is automatic but check it just the same). hmmm, and maybe it is time you check your clock and watch, smoke detector, and other battery devices too--like your computer power backup. Wouldn't you hate to rely on them and find the batteries had gone dead?

This past month has been very busy behind the scenes at CFC. A lot of you are preparing for the holidays--dusting off graphic images, sprucing up the colors, setting up homepages, searching out midi files. As always, we're here offering HTML assistance, doing the odd graphic by request, helping you in whatever way we can.
Okay, but while you're cleaning up, fixing up, and making all those changes, there's one item we would like you to consider working on--the Founder's Message. A lot of the clubs we visit say something like: This club is about relationships. We're here to share. Post your messages. No flaming. No bashing.
The message is not very friendly, not very welcoming (even if it did include the word Welcome), and certainly not very informative. What aspect of relationships might this club be about? ...acquaintanceship, friendship, family, flirtation? what? Just what are we sharing? And let's face it, terms like flaming, bashing, even messages may be entirely foreign concepts to the first time club visitor. Too, a lot of clubs talk about current activities without making any attempt to speak to non-members or, worse, offer no message at all. Yet, in the past month, Yahoo! freed up a lot more space on the clubsite for our founder's messages--nearly double.
So, Yahoo! Club Founders' Club is proposing a series of clinic-like chat sessions where we'll talk about ideas that might help you isolate what your club is about, what makes it special, and express those ideas as a better founder message (see schedule below). Come on. You know it's true. You get one chance to make a first impression; and if you're not making the most of it, you're blowing it.
AngelPie_Mouse (aka clubfoundersclub) [Co-Founder]

Tentative scheduling for our next two chat sessions are:
- Wednesday, October 25 at 9 p.m. EDT (6 p.m. PDT and 2 a.m. Thursday GMT)
- Sunday, October 29 at 3 p.m. EDT (12 p.m. (noon) PDT and 8 p.m. GMT)
Topic: What makes a good Founder's Message and how to tailor it."
This chat will not be a lecture but a discussion of the topic although we'll offer suggestions specific to your club. Members who are sure they have the best message possible are asked to come and share ideas anyway.

Our last chat session was a miserable failure. Mistybunny was in tears. I didn't even show up. Ah, but I had an excuse...I couldn't get into the chat session. It seems as if all of Yahoo! Chat was down and I tried with both standard chat and with Cheeta Chat. If you tried to be there and had the same problem, let Mistybunny know so she won't think we stood her up. She might decide we don't want chat sessions anymore.

The term "thread" comes from the days of EBBs and Usenet/Newsnet. It refers to a series of posts, which may or may not be on topic but begin with the same subject heading. "Re:" on our message board can either be taken as "regarding" or "replying to," for example. Pointing to the beginning of a thread, you can sometimes gleen important bits of discussion pro and con on an issue, allowing you to make a more informed decision. We use the term a little more loosely in Yahoo! clubs, where a response can often be as much off topic as on.
The main concern of this digest is to point to beginnings of threads or significant entries concerning them or important postings that you might want to visit again. We do not bring you the entire post--a complete repost would take far too much space. However, we do offer the entry number, the subject line, name of member posting, date, some overview of the content, and a list of related posts (if any) over a 30 day period (+/-) in the listing below.
