| There´s quite a gathering at the tribes of Pickwick´s club tonight - skinheads, mohicans, fancy dressers, punks even a parka on two and some who look positively normal. They along with half the musicians in Liverpool are here to see the first gig with their revised line-up of Dead Or Alive. The band thenselves are a pretty varied visual assortment as well not the least of whom is the cult figure of vocalist Pete Burns. Unfortunatley, however, when it comes to writting about the band most critics seem contest with scoring a few cheap points at the expense of his startling appearance rather than bothering thenselves to notice that not only does Burns leave most of his better know Liverpudilan contemporanies stanting when it comes singing but he´s also a talented writer.. He´ll be better at both when he finally twigs that you get best results when you sing about something that really matters to you. Meanwhile the band are doing quite well for starters Its a big expensive sound that Dead Or Alive create. Hard worker drummer Joey Musket pushes them on from the core with new bass player Mike Percy, new guitarrist Wayne Hussey and keyboard player Monty Healy fill out the dark but energised sound with Burns powerful vocals. Best songs are the melodies from the singles ´ I´m Falling´ and ´Number Eleven´ and the closer ´Flowers´ when the band really pull it all together. |
