Report
Eraser opening ceremony,
6 April
2001
It was on a cloudy Friday morning when Warner Bros Movieworld unveiled
their new major rollercoaster for the 2001
season: Eraser (Bist du Bereit?). I was there and here's the report about how it
went.
When
we arrived at the park, we got a special VIP sticker which we had to stick on
our coats, so we could get access to the
Eraser opening VIP areas. After that we went into the park, and went to the
Warner Music Cafe, where we could drink some
coffee or cold drinks and eat some muffins or bagels. At 10.45 we went to Eraser,
where a small stage was build for the opening ceremony. Eraser
itself was running with one train (later two) enjoying the people that were
waiting for the opening.
Then, just past 11.00 o'clock Mr Meck came on stage and told something
about the rollercoaster and he thanked some people.
After that the Oberbürgemeister of Bottrop had a speech.
Then
two men on motor bikes came riding to the gate, and Mr Meck screamed: What’s
this? What’s happening? Asking the police officer that was there.
The two men got through the gate and attacked the policeman.
When they had put him down, they turned to the stage and attacked Mr Meck,
taking money of him. Suddenly the main character of the Eraser movie tore down
the plastic Eraser sign and attacked the two men, he took the money and gave it
back to Mr Meck.
After
this little piece of entertainment the rollercoaster was officially opened and
the invited coaster enthusiasts could have the first ride.
The ride:
Eraser
is a standard Vekoma SLC, so there isn’t much to tell about this
rollercoaster. I haven’t ridden any other standard SLC coasters, only El
Condor, which is a SLC prototype. Therefore I will compare them.
I think Eraser is much smoother than El Condor, it has one small bump in the
track. That’s when you go past the station into the half loop/corkscrew.
Many people won’t feel it, but people like me notice those things.
