The wild coatimundi travel in groups of up to 24 coati's. When they walk their tails stick straight up and they chatter a lot, therefore making them easy to locate - if you know where to look.  They love fruit and when it is available that is mostly what they eat.  Coati's live in desert areas in Arizona, Mexico, and a few other places. They dwell in canyon areas where there are tall trees and they make their nests in them in the spring time. The best thing to do is to sit up on a hill over looking a canyon and glass the area with a pair of binoculars or a spotting scope and after locating some coati's sneak up on them.  You can also set up a box trap (see diagram) with some fruit as bait and waiting for them to come by because they are very nosy and curious.  I'm not sure if coati's are endangered or not so I don't encourage killing them, although I hate them because of an incident a couple months back. Be careful when approaching coati's because they are very vicious.
