Stay on the Sunnyside
Mac rolled over, wanting to smack her husband for snoring in her ear, after
realizing the time; she got out of bed and headed to for the bathroom.
She knew that she could make any noise she wanted, he slept like a bear in
hibernation. Of course being on vacation in sunny Florida during the
winter after leaving cold Washington was enough for even her to consider
sleeping in.
After changing clothes, she headed to the small cramped kitchen of the travel
trailer, grabbed the coffee pot and headed to their makeshift porch. The
sun was hinting at rising so she knew she had enough time to head to the beach
before it peaked. She knew Sunnyside RV park like she knew her home in Virginia.
She glanced around the silent RV Park and wondered if Harriet was still going to
go into town with her later to do some shopping. They were about out of
everything and her better half had insisted that they wait till the got there to
buy what they needed after they cleaned out their home cabinets. They had
bought this new trailer after their old one had had a kitchen fire last year.
This one was the largest on the lot and it was still cramped to her after their
sprawling 5 acres that they lived on at home.
With the coffee done she poured herself a cup in her 32oz 'I'm a Marine don't
mess with me' mug, slipped on her sandals and headed for the beach.
Whistling for Bumpers, her black and white 12-year-old cocker spaniel that she
gotten for her birthday several years back.
An hour later found her back at the trailer with the smell of bacon and eggs
being cooked from the Roberts Winnebago and the occasional curse coming from
hers. She saw that Bud had already been up because of the train set that
was strung out over the picnic table
"Mac, have you seen my teeth? I know you enjoy hiding them from
me," was what she was greeted with as she hosed her feet before she entered
the trailer.
"I left them where I always do, by the plant in the window above the
kitchen sink. You do this for weeks every year when we come down
here."
"Sorry love, but you know how absent minded I get when we get down here,
the surf and the sand."He said as he plucked his teeth out of the cleaning
bowl.
"The wind and your kites, thank goodness they don't require the handling
Sarah does or you would have crashed that plane years ago."
A nasty glare came her way as Harm put his teeth in. "You like flying
that old plane as much as I do so don't get nasty on me this morning
Marine."
Mac just smiled back and pulled out a couple of packages of cream of wheat.
"What flavor do you want?"
"Apple cinnamon, since I know you want the strawberry and there is only one
of those left."
"I plan on going into town today and shopping." She said as she
shook her head. Harm was dress in a blue t-shirt and green striped shorts.
At least he didn't pack those obnoxious socks he wore last summer.
"You and Harriet plan on going into town and playing bingo too." He
asked as he saw the mock shocked face she put on.
"Me play bingo. I am a marine Harm, we don't play bingo."
"That's not what the grandkids tell me. Molly was excited because Grandma
won and took them all out for Beltway burgers. Really Mac." He said
shaking a finger at her. "Besides what are all these daubers doing in
the bathroom cabinet?"
Trying to shrug off that she had been discovered, "Fine, yes we are going
to play bingo, Bud is going to his UFO meeting and you are going to go out and
fly your kites."
"I love retirement."
"I do too and I love you. Even if your snoring wakes me up."
"Thanks, I love you too and you tell me that I spoil hallmark
moments."
"So how long have you been playing Bingo?" He asked coming up and
putting his arms around her.
The bing of the microwave saved her from answering as she got out their
breakfast.
Harm just shook his head.
