Froment Model Engine/Motor
The Froment Motor or engine was one of the first Electrical machines to do real work. These designs Helped influence the modern day Induction Motor.
Below I have tried to document the building of a model version of this type.
Not totally accurate in perhaps the style of build but the design will be the same.
Here are the coils for the Froment engine. Wound with 5 layers of 0.4mm enamalled copper wire.
Coil former is phenolic for traditional look.
Diameter and exact measurements to be added when I draw up the plans correctly as this is a free form engine not to anyone elses design, although influenced by many!
Heres a picture of the base along with the 2 pillars that will support the next floor. The iron cores of the electromagnet will sit on an insulated strip. These pillars have yet to be finished as I am planning to go for a fluted design.
Here is the base along with the coils, pillars and first floor platform. Next up is the pillars for the flywheel mount and finishing the flywheel you see in the background of this picture.
Then the magnet cores.
Wooden base is Mahogany finished with standard round over bit.
