Here we give thanks for BDS's short, but sweet life.
BDS was born in April 1997 at a duck farm at the former Heddingly Hospital near Hailsham, East Sussex.
She came to live with us on 23rd April with Duncan, Dillis and Dorothy. From the first she was marked out as a special duck.
As she grew see was clearly much smaller than the other three and seemed not to be growing at all. As the others got towards adult size it was clear we would have to separate BDS from the others. Unfortunatley she was troden on by Dylis and broke her leg. At the time she was also very ill and it did not look like she would live long. Still she grew her adult plumage and was able to go out into the garden with the others. Unfortunatley Dylis would attack her so she had to go in a run with the ginea-pigs.
She travelled down to Exeter with Trevor in October 97 and quick became established in one of the out houses. Here she prefected the art of flying (takes off having to be human aided). Her landings tended to be a bit hit and miss. Well more hit really.
However, she caught a cold in December and although we fed her on warm milk and chick crumb she was never going to last long.
She died in her sleep on 21st December 1997.
She lies buried at Munby Cottage in a plastic tub to stop the local wild life digging her up.
