Construction of Wilcox began in the spring of 1960; but even before our school was half build, the first student was busy making plans for school proceedings. The colors of GREEN and GOLD were chosen by ballot, as was the school mascot, THE WARRIOR. During the summer the Wilcox Constitution was written. By the fall a new student government was ready to work.

In November of 1961, a formal dedication was held in the gymnasium. The most significant part of the ceremony was the presentation of a huge Wilcox blanket to Mr. Adrian C. Wilcox, our schools namesake and a man who had dedicated forty years of his life to establishing schools in the Santa Clara Valley. About the same time the first newspaper, the WAR CHANTS, rolled off the press, and our first yearbook staff began its work on the Wilcox Promethean.

In 1964 all school buildings were finally completed. This was the first year for Rally Council, the Senior Ball, and Graduation. Many of our athletic teams did well in state and national competition, and our student government had become an example for many schools to follow.

In the early 1980s declining enrollment in the four high schools that served Santa Clara caused the city to take action. The city consolidated the four schools into two. They kept Santa Clara's campus and Buscher's students joined Santa Clara. They also kept the campus at Wilcox High School and Peterson's students joined Wilcox. With the consolidation came new school colors BLACK and GOLD and a new mascot CHARGERS. The Class of 1982 was the first graduating class of the new Wilcox Chargers.
