PRESIDENT (3 year commitment):

 

Act for and in the name of the Association

Supervise and coordinate the activities and affairs of the Association.

Play a primary supportive role in several projects and initiatives.

Head the active promotion of C.A.P.S.I. activities to students, industry and the profession.

Chair and mediate discussion during all meetings of the General Council, the National Executive and General Membership meetings.

Create agendas and organize council meetings.

Prepare a report for the Annual Meetings (PDW and CPhA conferences) and when appropriate to inform the Executive and General Council.

Ensure that resolutions adopted by the Association are acted upon and adhered to.

Initiate, delegate and promote the development and growth of C.A.P.S.I.

Responsible for fostering good relations and partnerships with National and International Pharmacy Associations (e.g. CPhA, FIP, etc.).

Recognize the importance and liability of CAPSI as an organization to the directives of the constitution and be committed to upholding these directives.

PRESIDENT-ELECT

Learn about the function and intricacies of C.A.P.S.I.

Consult with the President regularly and assist the President in all aspects of his/her duties when needed.

Serve as Vice-Chairman of the General and Executive Council meetings and during the absence of the President he/she shall perform such duties and exercise such powers.

To prepare reports for the Annual Meetings (PDW and CPhA conferences) and when appropriate to inform the Executive and General Council.

Act as the Liaison between the Academy of Students in Pharmacy (ASP) and C.A.P.S.I.

Act as the Liaison between the Canadian Society of Hospital Pharmacists (CSHP) and C.A.P.S.I.

Play a secondary supportive function in projects and initiatives.

Organize and prepare agendas for the turnover meetings at the beginning of his/her presidential term (CPhA Conference).

Participate as an active member of the Executive Council, offering feedback and input on any issues and discussions that arise.

PAST PRESIDENT

Primary role is that of the provision of wisdom and advice to the new council.

Act as an advisor to the President.

Complete several small projects and work on initiatives that are more historical in nature.

VICE-PRESIDENT OF EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS

Responsible for the coordination of the National Competitions of C.A.P.S.I. including review, updates and distribution of the rules and regulations. The competitions include: CAPSI Compounding Competition, CAPSI Patient Interview Competition, CAPSI / CSHP Pharmaceutical Care Poster Competition and CAPSI / Apotex-P.A.C.E. Student Literary Challenge

Contact and maintain relations with all sponsors and groups affiliated with the competitions and other projects associated with this portfolio.

Review, distribute, compile and evaluate the C.A.P.S. I. Wage Survey with a follow-up article of the results written and published in the Canadian Pharmaceutical Journal and Pharmacy Practice.

Review, update and distribute the various Awards of Professionalism.

Maintain a close professional relationship with the Association of Faculties of Pharmacy Across Canada (AFPC).

Coordinate nationally the "Rap Sessions" by proposing topics and assisting the team responsible for the topic.

Participate as an active member of the Executive Council, offering feedback and input on any issues and discussions that arise.

Attend the two Annual Meetings : PDW and the CPhA Conference and prepare and distribute reports. (Reports may be made throughout the year to inform the Executive and General Council as needed).

Submit articles to the CAPSIL when required at your discretion.

VALUABLE SKILLS AND TRAITS: Oral and written communication skills, ability to analyze, assess and evaluate protocols, procedures and documents, any statistical knowledge, creativity.

VICE-PRESIDENT COMMUNICATIONS

Act as a Liaison between C.A.P.S.I. and other associations / organizations / pharmaceutical companies (i.e. responsible for public relations).

Responsible for the review, update and distribution of C.A.P.S.I.’s promotional material.

Act as resource for Senior and Junior Representatives for CAPSI awareness and promotion during C.A.P.S.I. Awareness Week.

Coordinate membership benefits and services (e.g. C.A.P.S.I. Club, Agenda).

Responsible for the solicitation of pharmaceutical companies to sponsor C.A.P.S.I. events.

Responsible for follow-up with phone calls and thank you letters to supporting companies.

Ensure that all CAPSI Club members receive their benefits.

Represent C.A.P.S.I. and speak at the annual Pharmacy Awareness Week (PAW) Launch.

Serve as a contact to the CPhA PAW Representative, and participate actively in helping local councils receive the materials needed.

Provide summaries of PAW across Canada to various publications (CPJ, Pharmacy Practice, CAPSIL).

Participate as an active member of the Executive Council, offering feedback and input on any issues and discussions that arise.

Attend meetings and prepare and distribute reports at the two Annual Meetings : PDW and the CPhA Conference. (Reports may be made throughout the year to inform the Executive and General Council as needed).

 

VALUABLE SKILLS AND TRAITS: Effective oral and written communication skills and comfortable public speaking, bilingualism is an asset, organization, time management, effective social skills

FINANCE OFFICER

Deposit and carry out all the banking activities for C.A.P.S.I. National.

To formulate a budget for the year, based on last year’s resources and expenditures.

To maintain accurate records of all transactions involving C.A.P.S.I. National.

To promptly reimburse all General Council members upon receiving receipts.

To maintain close contact with the current PDW Committee about Finance affairs.

To prepare and submit the books to be audited at year’s end.

To prepare regular statements regarding C.A.P.S.I. National’s finance position to be distributed to all General Council members.

To present mid-year and final year reports at PDW and CPhA conferences.

Participate as an active member of the Executive Council, offering feedback and input on any issues and discussions that arise.

Advise and inform the General and Executive Council in financial matters concerning the Association.

To select an auditor for the Year End book reviews and negotiate a suitable fee for service.

To prepare and submit the books to be audited at year’s end.

To be the chairperson of the Finance Committee (committee appointed by President) which will make finance-related decisions and assessments throughout the year and present them to National Executive and General Council.

VALUABLE SKILLS AND TRAITS: Accounting and record-keeping experience, experience with Microsoft Excel, Word or other computer programs that facilitate record maintenance, organization, time management skills

EXECUTIVE SECRETARY

Coordinate the internal correspondence of the Association.

Maintain an accurate and up to date mailing list of all Executive and General Council members.

Establishes a "Focus List" protocol for discussion over E-mail of various issues that affect the Association.

Prepare the meeting agendas with the President.

Compile the meeting minutes, resolutions, motions adopted and directives of all meetings and relevant discussions of the Executive and General Council.

Distribute minutes and directives to all Executive and General Council in a timely manner after the meetings.

Coordinate the entire election process and ensure that the election and bi-election protocol is enforced.

Review and update the Association’s Officer’s Manual and Constitution and see that all members of the General and Executive members have copies.

Maintain the "CAPSI Archives" (List of all Executive and General Council members).

Participate as an active member of the Executive Council, offering feedback and input on any issues and discussions that arise.

Attend meetings and prepare and distribute reports at the two Annual Meetings : PDW and the CPhA Conference. (Reports may be made throughout the year to inform the Executive and General Council as needed).

VALUABLE SKILLS AND TRAITS: Effective written and oral communication skills, computer knowledge and skills, organization, time management, dedication, timeliness with deadlines, ability to analyse, assess and evaluate documents.

CAPSIL EDITOR

Coordinate and prepare the Association’s bilingual newsletter: the CAPSIL / JACEIP.

Responsible for collecting and translating articles.

Responsible for layout, printing and distribution of the CAPSIL / JACEIP to all nine pharmacy schools in Canada and entitled sponsors.

Responsible for the publication of three (3) issues of the CAPSIL / JACEIP.

Responsible for enforcing and communicating deadlines to ensure timely publication.

Participate as an active member of the Executive Council, offering feedback and input on any issues and discussions that arise.

Attend meetings and prepare and distribute reports at the two Annual Meetings : PDW and the CPhA Conference. (Reports may be made throughout the year to inform the Executive and General Council as needed).

 

VALUABLE SKILLS AND TRAITS: Computer skills, experience in editing, setup or layout of publications (past use or familiarity with a desk top publishing program to facilitate the layout of the CAPSIL / JACEIP would be extremely beneficial), able to enforce deadlines, an awareness of current pharmacy issues so that the pertinent issues occurs with the planning of content for each edition of the CAPSIL / JACEIP

Note: Identification of and communication with printing companies available in the city of the CAPSIL Editor would be desirable.

IPSF LIAISON

Act as the liaison to the International Pharmacy Students’ Federation.

Represent C.A.P.S.I. and Canadian pharmacy students to the world.

Introduce, implement and coordinate the various IPSF projects for the current year.

Complete letters and questionnaires about pharmacy Canada.

Keep the Federation informed about proceedings and work within C.A.P.S.I.

To communicate with IPSF by sending them an incoming report at the beginning of mandate and an outgoing report after the CPhA conference, where turnover occurs

Inform the Federation about meetings, conferences, etc. in Canada.

Submit articles for the News Bulletin publication.

Responsible for the collection of payments for the IPSF Annual Membership Fees and Student Exchange Fees.

Provide progress reports about the work achieved in Canada.

Represent and arrange appropriate and adequate representation of C.A.P.S.I. at the IPSF annual Congress by Official Delegates of C.A.P.S.I. and to instruct these delegates fully of their duties at Congress.

Promote IPSF to students and recent graduates and to inform CAPSI National of the application deadlines for IPSF Membership.

Examples of projects of IPSF include: Student Exchange Program, Annual IPSF International Congress of Pharmacy ,Village Concept Project (Joint C.A.P.S.I. / IPSF) + many other projects such as Book Appeal, AIDS Awareness, Pharmacy 2000, etc.

Act as the Canadian Coordinator of the various IPSF projects.

To be intimately involved in the organization of host sites and placement of students for the Student Exchange Program, and to work closely with each local IPSF Contact Person.

Participate as an active member of the Executive Council, offering feedback and input on any issues and discussions that arise.

Attend meetings and prepare and distribute reports at the two Annual Meetings : PDW and the CPhA Conference. (Reports may be made throughout the year to inform the Executive and General Council as needed).
