The new-born star -- "Nautilus Pompilius" first appeared in 1987.
The mysterious band from Sverdlovsk in just a moment beat all records of popularity, a sacramental singer (Butusov) was loved by everyone, from granddaughters to grandmothers. In
1988 "Nau" was the most popular and recognizable band in the whole USSR. The band was predicted to have a big future, big money, etc. However, in
1989, despite all predictions
"Nautilus" became an enigma of the year: neither live performances, no recordings, not even rumors about "Nau" were around. A year later, Butusov again appeared on the musical arena, with new songs, new musicians.
In few interviews he tried to avoid all questions about what happened.
Dimitriy Umetskiy, his previous partner, almost a brother, with whom Butusov created "Nautilus", already said for several times that he did not even know such name -- "Nautilus".
Despite all of that what was left behind, "NP" soon took its place (one of the first) in Russian music. "Nautilus Pompilius" proved to be one of best band ever existed in Russia and USSR. Unfortunately for many fans, the band decided to end its existance. On the 12 of June 1997 ( Russia's Independence Day ) the last concert took place in a hometown ( Sverdlovsk ) of the band...
