Poem: Thanks Is Not Enough
Thanks is Not Enough

In honor of Marla Wilkins, one of the kindest and most caring person I've ever known.

Though there are millions of words
in the English language with which
to express ourselves, all that I
could think of to say was "thanks",
but then again,
THANKS IS NOT ENOUGH!

When I was feeling as if I was
all alone, you comforted me with
your words of love and compassion,
and yet all I could say was "thanks",
but then again,
THANKS IS NOT ENOUGH!

You listened to my problems and spoke
to me words that were kind and gentle,
and yet the only way I could think of to
express my gratitude was to say "thanks",
but then again,
THANKS IS NOT ENOUGH!

The rampant rive of emotions tore my
emotional barrier down, and you helped
me rebuild it, but still the only word
that I was able to utter was "thanks",
but then again,
THANKS IS NOT ENOUGH!

I talked of the past and how I missed
it so, all the while crying as you
comforted me, and yet the only gratitude
my mouth could speak was the word "thanks",
but then again,
THANKS IS NOT ENOUGH!

At the time I was feeling most vulnerable
you gave me strength and told me that everything
would be alright, but I would only recall
one word to repay you kindness, "thanks",
but then again,
THANKS IS NOT ENOUGH
