MAT 434 : Introduction to Statistics


A basic introductory course in applied probability and statistics oriented towards undergraduate students in mathematics, engineering, and the sciences. Although the course is intended towards the applied side, some theoretical background into distribution theory is developed for a proper understanding the validity of the statistical techniques presented. Topics include basic probability theory, random variables and their distributions, statistical inference, estimation and testing of hypothesis, analysis of variance, applications to reliability, life testing, and quality control. Prerequisite MAT 228.
