THE WAY

What is The Way?
The Way is an infinite corridor, a self contained universe. In its
center is the flaw, a singularity that runs the entire length of the way,
and around the flaw is a plasma tube that lights the way, and the stone
at its end. Along the walls of the way are entrances to alternate
universes, controlled by the descendants of modern day humans, the makers
of the way.

The Flaw
The flaw is a singularity that runs the entire length of The Way.
Although it is a singularity, it is not a black hole. In fact, the
flaw has no attractive gravitational force at all. Instead, it has
a repulsive gravitational force, the force being directly proportional
to the square of the distance of an object from the flaw, instead of inversely
proportional, as is the case with regular gravity.
The effect of this force is the same as if gravity was pulling from
beneath the floor or walls of the corridor.
The singularity has other bizarre effects. If a force is applied
to the singularity, the response force does not oppose the force applied,
instead it is perpendicular to it. This means that the characters
in the book can 'ride the flaw' by placing a clamp around the singulaity,
which provides constant acceleration.
The flaw seems to be made out of "The building blocks of space-time",
along with the gateways to the other universes. Whatever that means,
it is obviously something far beyond the grasp of current technology.

The Plasma Tube
Surrounding the flaw is a glowing tube, made entirely of plasma.
It has no known power source, and has nothing holding it in place.
It doesn't even have any effect on objects passing through it. It
just glows constantly, providing eternal light over an infinite area.
This is something else well beyond our current understanding of the universe.
