FDC Brotherhood Report

brother ź hood n. 1. the bond between brothers 2. an association of men united in some interest, work, etc.

The term brotherhood encompasses everything for which our fraternity stands. There were seven pledge brothers in the Spring 1998 pledge class, five completing training and initiation. The sixth withdrew completely from school, apparently needing to fulfill something else in his life with which we would be unable to help. The seventh, still a neophyte, not due to lack of commitment on his part, but being bound to a previous engagement on the night of initiation. This neophyte is active in all functions held by the fraternity to which he is eligible to attend. His actions of continuing involvement and the fraternity’s actions of acceptance reaffirm my beliefs in this fraternity...this brotherhood. The bond that was formed between the pledge brothers is very strong. Our pledge trainers are responsible for most of this bond. They expressed the importance of "sticking together no matter what," and we followed this through to the end. One incident comes plainly to memory; of a night during pledgeship during which we were supposed to be questioned individually regarding the knowledge that we possessed at that point. Each of us took hold of the other and refused to proceed unless they took us all, as we were all one. This single act impressed the brothers as they had never seen another pledge group stick together so well. Each of us are at different parts of our Pharmacy School career, but this bond overcomes any barriers which might have previously existed.
