The dreams of its founding fathers took shape in 1984 in the form of Shanmugha College of Engineering which is now renamed, SHANMUGHA ARTS, SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY & RESEARCH ACADEMY(SASTRA) . Within a short span of 17 years it has attained a name for itself as a center for nurturing, fostering and developing the body, mind and spirit of its students free from any lopsided development. We at SASTRA are totally committed to the threefold flowering of all our students entrusted to our care. Our blend of academic excellence and real-world experience with moral values has earned us national recognition.

SASTRA Deemed University is situated at a distance of 40 km from Tiruchirapalli and 17 km from Thanjavur on the National Highway No. NH.67. The campus is spread over a land area of 140 acres. It has enrolment of about 4,500 students. Among other facilities, it has a satellite center at Kumbakonam, where thrust is given to UG and PG science subjects.The University is offering B.Tech, M.Tech. and Ph.D. programmes in various disciplines. Computer facilities with super computer installed in the TIFAC-CORE provide excellent aid to the teachers and research workers to access information and data management.

Blessed by the Venerable Acharyas of Kanchi and ever under the divine guidance of our presiding deity enshrined in His palladium at the entrance of the University, our campus has an ambience, different from others of its kind. SASTRA has 168 acres of land at its command, with a built up area of about 55,000 square metres.

SASTRA offers 12 undergraduate and 16 postgraduate engineering programmes besides M.B.A and M.C.A and with laboratories fully equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, well-stocked library and one of the best computer centers. With an attractive teacher-taught ratio 1:11.5, we strive to bring about academic excellence and personalized attention. The mechanisms established to support and monitor the students' progress assure success and satisfaction.

Right from its inception, SASTRA has achieved national standing in terms of academic performance, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities and also in the growth and commitment to social service. The department also assists you, as you develop your resume, projects and explore your career options. Utilizing our far-reaching alumni network and our contacts, we work with you to find training and employment in fields that interest you. Interviews are arranged at on-campus locations and employer offices.

ABOUT THANJAVUR

Temple, called as Bragatheeswarar Temple, constructed by a Chola King, Raja Raja’s Chola architecture, and Saraswathi Mahal Library, a treasure-house of palm leaf manuscripts (Modi) over 30,000, representing the period of 18th century, are the centers of tourists attraction from all over the world. It is the birth-place for Bharathanatiyam (a classical Indian dance and music) and the birth-place of Saint Thiagaraja, the great Indian musician). The city is surrounded by alluvium and the lush green paddy fields of the delta. The climate during February will be pleasant with diurnal temperature oscillating around 27oC.

Thanjavur is famous for the handloom silks of Thirubhuvanam and Ammapet, which are used in the traditional attire of Indian women and ancient traditional metal works. In the vicinity of this city, there is a coastal town of tourists interest, Tharangambadi, which had been a Danish settlement from 1624 to 1825. A Roman Catholic pilgrim center is located at Velanganni, and an Islamic pilgrim center at Nagore. Historical Kallanai dam of 2000 years old built by Cholas, should also be of special interest to delegates.

The weather condition in February will be quite pleasant with maximum temperature around 27oC. The night temperature may oscillate around 23oC. It is the winter season for this region.
