Philanthropy

Delta Zeta philanthropy is the Delta Zeta Foundation. The Delta Zeta foundation was first established in 1961. The original plan of the foundation was to award scholarships. In 1969, changes were made to the tax laws. It was recommended to the foundation that the National Council transfer all of the philantropic efforts of the sorority to the foundation.In 1970, this motion was adopted unanimously and the Delta Zeta foundation was established as it is today. all contributions made to the foundation are now tax deductible.The Delta Zeta Foundation is supported by donations from collegiate chapters,alumnae chapters and individual Delta Zetas along with their families and friends; another source of income is Delta Zeta alumnae.The work of the Foundation is divided into four parts, Scholarships,are made possible for initiated members in good standing who have demostrated academic excellence and/ or finiancial need. Education, Foundation is able to fund educational programs for the sorority. Historical Museum and Headquarters to provided anything if needed. Speech and Hearing is the main responsability of the sororites philanthropy, thre Foundation makes annual donations to the House Ear Institute and Galludet University.Delta Zeta's involvement in speech and hearing has a long and rich history. Alumnae and collegiate chapters have ongoing involvement in their communities in this area also.

Gallaudet University -Delta Zeta has associated with the university since 1955. More than 12,000 in Delta Zeta scholarships are awarded annually to Gallaudet students.

House ear Institute - the Prents Conference room at the Institute in Los Angelos was furnished by Delta Zeta. We have also given funds for researchand clinical services.

National Associationof the Deaf, Council for Better Hearing and Speech Month, Better Hearing Institute - These are non-profit organizations that we support as well.

 

's at Western Carolina participate in Adopt-A- Highway, Rock-A-Thon, Sea Saw, and going to Mountain Trace as part of our philanthropy. Adopt-A-Highway is done at least once every semester,we all gather together at a certain time on a Saturday and we cover a five mile stretch. Rock-A-Thon or Sea Saw is done once a year. The objective of them is to raise money for Galluate University. The sorority Rocks or Saws for 24hrs, each member signs up for a time, it is usually done in pairs so the girls are not allone. Last year we raised over a thousand dollars for the University. Mountain Trace is another activity we do, for every holiday we go and visit the elderly and bring them home made cards that every member made in their own special way.
