BD seeks Pakistan's regret

DHAKA, Jan 26: Dhaka said on Monday it wanted Pakistan to express regret for the 1971 "genocide" in former East Pakistan before the founding of Bangladesh.

"We appreciate Pakistan government's position as stated in reported remarks by Nawaz Sharif that he would punish those responsible for the 1971 tragedy," the official BSS news agency quoted a senior foreign ministry official as saying.

"But we would like them to go a little further to express regret for the genocide against the people of Bangladesh," he said.-Reuters
