Turn 1.0: "Lights Out"

Exhaustion. It's all anyone could think about on-board KRS. The
Kendai Relay Station. It was synonomous with hell, for various reasons.
Jake Haldig waited impatiently in Lift-Two as it carried him up to
Level-Three and a well-deserved rest in the Crew Alpha berthing room. The
lift was nothing more than a rickety cage on a gravity pod, sliding up and
down on a few guide cables. He could see all the way up or down the shaft
as he traveled just by looking through the floor or the ceiling. It was
amazing how much safer these things looked when the padding and wall panels
were put up to separate you from the mechanics behind everything. As the
doors finally opened, he noticed the 'Doc' leaving the sick bay. The T'sa
lizard was a little odd, but one you got used to him, he seemed okay. He
stepped out to join him as he walked down the hall, obviously headed the
same way.

"Up late again?" he asked, shifting his charge rifle into a better
position on his shoulder.

"Yessss, yesss," Doctor Lugwig replied, "Thessse sssimpletonss! They
cannot even take the common deccccenccccy to usse the flassshlightsss that
were isssued to them." The T'sa medical officer looked worn out...even for
one of his race, the legendary energy reserve of the T'sa had simply been
stretched too thin. "One of the ComTech people bumped hisss head on a
sssensssor ssstation upssstairsss. Nasssty bruissse. It'sss all taken care
of now, though. I wasss about to go back to bed. Isss your ssshift over?"

"Yeah," Jake nodded, "Time to wake up sleeping beauty and let her take
over."

    "Nola?" Lugwig asked.

"Yeah...ain't she a looker?" the marine smiled.

"Your funeral...," Lugwig laughed, his tail swishing back and forth as
the humor allowed him a momentary surge of energy again.

The two walked the rest of the way to Berthing Compartment Alpha, the
only place they could comfortably call home on the whole station. Opening
the door, they hesitated a moment before ducking inside to let their eyes
adjust to the darkness. Everything was quiet...except for a few snores.

"Pardon me," Lugwig finally said, moving past the marine and scampering
into the darkness in order to find his bunk. The room could hold up to
fifteen, but the station was woefully understaffed currently. Jake grinned
to himself as he shut the door behind them and silently moved in the
direction of Nola T'Sharn's bed. This would be fun!

"Oh, Nola? Nola...," he whispered, his hand reaching out into the dark
to find her warm, smooth body. "I wonder what she wears to bed?" he thought
aloud.

    *Click-click*

"Nothing," Nola answered, pressing the point of her charge pistol into
the marine's back and making him freeze in his tracks, "As long as I'm with
the right person...but I've been up and dressed for the past half-hour now.
What kept you 'Dig'?"

"Ummm...nothin'," he stammered, trying to think of an easy way out of
the situation, "Everything's normal as can be out there...if you can call
this place normal. Heh...no need to get all jumpy or anything. You can put
that away. I wasn't gonna hurt ya..."

Nola put her pistol back into the holster at her side and stepped back.
"And what were you doing hovering over my bed, hmmmm?"

"Nothin'...I was just foolin' around, you know? What? Don't you ever
fool around, darlin'?" he asked, relaxing a bit now that the gun was out of
the way. He smiled in the dark and even though she couldn't see his face,
she knew it by the tone of his voice. She started to tell him exactly what
she thought, when...

Suddenly, they both felt dizzy...like they were falling in the dark!
Jake reached out blindly and snagged Nola's arm, pulling her close...but
they both seemed to be drifting...floating.

"Awwww...not again!" the voice belonged to Zach, the computer technician,
"We'll never get any sleep if this keeps happening."

"What issss it?" Lugwig muttered between hisses.

"Relax...the artificial gravity's out," Alex called from across the room,
slowly drifting out of his bunk like everyone else. He felt completely at
ease, having experienced the sensation a number of times aboard his ship.

"But that's funny," Dimitrio cut in, "Power's out too. That shouldn't
have happened. I double-checked everything just a few hours ago."

The red-glowing emergency lamps began to switch on one by one. They
bathed the room in a weak light, providing the only illumination. Everyone
stared at the shockingly unfamiliar surroundings as their belongings floated
into the air, casting curious shadows as they spun about. Matching the
movements of their gear, everone's body seemed to drift just as aimlessly.
Some were tangled in their bedsheets...and Jake and Nola were pressed tightly
together.

"You can let go of me now...," Nola said, fidgeting with the
heavily-muscled arm of Jake that was wrapped around her waist.

"What? Awww, but I was just gettin' comfortable..." Jake chuckled,
tightening his grip a little.

A dull boom could be heard off in the distance...but wasn't discernible
enough to tell what could have caused such a noise.

"What was that?" Dimitrio asked for everyone. He glided across the room
and settled down next to the door. "The door's locked down!" he announced,
"What the hell is going on?"

---------- Turn 01 Comments ----------
--------------------------------------

    1. Welcome to the game...let the fun begin!
    2. I hope no one minds when I take over their character for them in order
to progress the story. You'll see that I'll be doing that from time to time
as we go through the campaign. Hopefully, I won't say or do anything too
out-of-character from how you perceive them to be. I tried to present everyone
very similar to the manner in which you introduced yourselves.
    3. It is currently about 2am in the morning on-board the station. Second
shift has just ended, and thus most of you had just begun to turn in for the
night. Third shift is about to begin, and thus Nola was awake already.
    4. Personal firearms (except for those with security positions) are not
currently among your belongings. You still have access to knives, and such,
though. One of the first actions upon taking employment at Kendai station was
to turn over your firearms for storage in Rieger Bloch's weapons-locker. He
has the only key except for the station commander. Even the other security
officers don't have access to it. In addition, the secuity officers, Nola and
Jake, only have a single firearm. No grenades, no heavy weapons, just a
pistol and a rifle, respectively.
    5. Actions anyone? Don't forget to use RV and the turn number in your
heading. Try to make sure you have all the mailing addresses included as
well. Thanks. Let the good times roll!

Alright Neil, let me have comments as to the style of the post.
Do we add on 'at the end' of your turn (like I just did)? Can we add
comments and actions 'in between' your turn? Will you wrap up our actions in
the next turn?

How do we handle the 'attempted actions'? Do you want us to describe as if
the action succeeded or will you take care of that description after you
roll the corresponding die?

Good start.

-- Fabian

Neil, good, good start. You probably need to use a grav-mace on someone
about auto responses, though. :-)

-- Paul

Have we magnetic soles on our shoes? Can I just clamp down? And yes,
I must agree. Impressive start...
