Sal Paradise - 'Further' (TN1057)

I just listened to a record of the band Pavement, before I bought this record and it was striking to hear the resemblances between both bands. Humorous lyrics, a bit depressive, slow feeling in most of the songs and strange, weird singing-parts... These Australian guys released this album 4 years ago and I just got it, so it's hard to describe this alternative foursome without placing it in the music-scene of today. The melancholic guitar-songs on this album with almost surrealistic lyrics like "engineered my demise, crafted every line, plans made and kept, sank to this.... depth" all have a specific sound, but together they sound like a unity. It's not really my kind of stuff, though, and although I respect this guitar-driven rock-band, I prefer up-tempo punk- and hardcore-music and that makes it hard to judge this stuff. It's a good album, for fans of experimental emo with a lot of freaking guitar-soundscapes...
