Further Seems Forever / Recess Theory - "From The 27th State" Split EP (Takehold Records)

I bought this 6-song split-EP on a show of Stretch Arm Strong while we were just talking to Further Seems Forever to come to our Peacedog-festival to replace ZAO, the band who cancelled. The show didn’t go on, but I’m a true FSF-fan now. Although they only released these 3 songs, I know another song from a Deep Elm-compilation and a song from a promotional single-release from Tooth & Nail. So, maybe 5 songs is not enough to judge a band… I’m looking forward to their full-length scheduled to be released on T&N spring 2001 and the songs I do know are just awesome, just like you can expect from a band coming from one of the best independent records-companies around these days: Takehold Records. They signed on to T&N this year, to have better distribution, and I think that’s what this band deserves. Anyhow, this Florida-based 5-some featuring ex-members of Strongarm and Shai Hulud, makes emotional (indie-) rock with intense singing and uplifting guitar-parts. Influenced by bands like Fugazi and Hot Water Music, they still capture their own sound, and the three songs from FSF on this record, “The Bradley”, “Justice Prevails” and  “New Year’s Project” are all pretty different from each other.

I want to hear more from this band in the future, that’s for sure, cause these 3 songs have been in my cd-player long enough now… Man, this is pretty good stuff, and I’m sure you’ll dig it when you like the bands mentioned above or The Juliana Theory and The Get-Up Kids. I give  9 points out of 10 for this band. A short note for the other band on this split-EP, Recess Theory: they’re not as good as FSF but worth listening as well.
