This
compilation tells the story of the (short) past and the (bright) future of BEC
Recordings, Brandon Ebel’s other company, besides Tooth & Nail. When
you’re interested in cool newer and older ska-, swing-, techno-, (punk-) rock
and popbands you’ll have to check
out Moms Like Us Too. I remember an old T&N-sampler with the same name, so
history repeats itself… Not for the music, though, because this compilation
contains a wide variety of bands. You’ll hear good old bands like the
Supertones, Plankeye, Joy Electric and Value Pac who all switched labels from
Tooth & Nail to BEC: most of the bands have released one or more albums on
Tooth & Nail. But now, in 2000 I have to admit that BEC also give new
artists a chance and this record must be seen as a presentation of this
company.
The best songs on this album are from the Supertones, Project 86 and the
Dingees, but the new group Not For The Crowd impressed me too with an original
rootsy ska/swing song. Pop-music at it’s best, and a good way to get to know
these bands, I think!
