ZAO - "The Splinter Shards The Birth Of Separation" (TN1079-SS3)

Intense.

That's how I'd describe this album in just one word. It kicks off with a bleep and then the growling voice of singer Shawn Jonas kicks you hard. Amazing hardcore, fast, loud, great voice, superior lyrics, great double bass drums, great changes in songs - fast, slow, faster - , even melody, all in one song! And not just in the first song, each and every song on this album rules.

When I first heard this album, I wasn't into hard core much. This was the hardest & loudest band I'd ever heard! This music somehow gave me so much energy that I just started jumping around the house. One of my favorite beginnings of a song is "Repressed" - it begins with some really tight drums and after a while, the singing starts, with the double bass drums guiding the singing. "Endure" on the other hand, starts with a really laid back guitar riff and slowly more instruments join in, just before the song gets rougher.

And check out the lyrics - they rule!
