Light
Once gone, here again
The lighthouse's light shines
meaninglessly on the ocean waters
An old man, his face ruddy in the moonlight
With a grin as purposeless as the beam
Turns the ray at the moors
And almost brings out the shadows of my face
I feel relieved when he finally
turns the shaft of light away
Here I'm not alone, for my spirit runs with me
I don't have to get away from it all
The strain. The pressure. All of it comes together with a crash
The skies pour out their troubles to me
As I sit there, drenching in their sorrows
Sorrows as deep as love
The love I lost, never to return again
Pitter patter, pitter patter.
CRASH, splat, BANG
My resolve leaves me, and I sit there, cursing my distress
I gradually realize the rain, glistening on my skin
I tread back the well-beaten path
The lone light shines on my retreating back
Once gone, here again.
