Texas Tech University is a four year, multipurpose, state-supported university located in Lubbock, on the Caprock of West Texas.  The University is a part of a complex including Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center and Museum of Texas Tech University.  This complex is situated on a beautful 1,800 acre camups in north-central Lubbock, that is home to 25,000 students.

TECH HISTORY AND TRADITIONS

  • Texas Tech was founded in 1923.
  • The Victory Bells are located in the East Tower of the Administration Building and were donated by the Seniors of 1936.
  • Memorical Circle was dedicated in 1948 by the Tech War Veterans Association.
  • Will Rodgers and Soapsuds statue is offset 23 degrees north from west so the horses hind quarters College Station, instead of traffic on University.
  • The Blarney Stone, located behind the EE building, is said to give anyone who kisses it the gift of eloquent speech.
  • The Double T Bench, located on the Administration building green, was donated by the Seniors of 1931.
  • Southwest Conference Circle was constructed after Tech was admitted into the SWC.  It was designed by W.D. Wisdom with money being provided by Alpha Phi Omgea, Saddle Tramps, and Circle K.
  • The Carol of Lights is an annual Christmas tradition in which thousands of lights that line the campus' main buildings are illuminated simultaneously after a ceremony.
