This is where I learned to fly fish. Great lake with many beautiful sights, but lousy fishing. A friend from work took me back to the lake for a short backpack trip because there are many places to explore. It sits back in a valley, and you can follow the valley back several miles to the top of the continental divide. I won't give any specifics on where the lake is, because it is much to complicated to explain here. Lets just say it is very difficult to get to and leave it at that.
It is only about a 3 mile hike from the trailhead, but you can only get to the trailhead about 3 weeks out of the year (I am not joking about this). It is always snowed up until late in the year. Talk about having to hit it at the right time.
Once you arrive at the lake, there is only one stop to camp, and it isn't all that pleasant. It is very open with no shade or cover. The rest of the terrain around the lake is very steep, just like the climb to get there. I only have one photo of the lake that turned out decent, this I took before the camera took a plunge during a fishing lesson. The photo is on the Mountain Lakes Photo page.
Overall, it is a great little lake to see, but don't stay any longer than needed to get a couple photos and leave. I personally think the place is cursed.
