FOOTBALL OPENER TO BE NATIONALLY TELEVISED
May 23, 2005 -- ATLANTA -- The season-opening football game between the Morehouse Maroon Tigers and the Benedict College Tigers has been re-scheduled for Thursday, August 25 at 7:30 p.m.
The game, to be played at Morehouse’s B.T. Harvey Stadium, was changed from Saturday, August 27, so that it can be broadcast live nationally on ESPNU. ESPNU, the newest affiliate of the ESPN cable TV family, will focus primarily on smaller colleges and has ironed out agreements with several conferences of Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
ESPNU signed a seven-year broadcast deal with the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference at the conference’s annual spring meeting May 20. To date, the fledgling affiliate has agreed to nationally broadcast three SIAC football games and two yet-to-be-announced SIAC basketball games.
With a new head coach and at least two football games scheduled for national broadcast, the 2005 Morehouse College football season promises to be one of the most exciting ever.
ESPNU is not yet available in all areas of the country. Network officials are urging viewer and fans to contact their cable provider to request service. To find out if ESPNU broadcasts in local areas, go to www.espnu.com.
