The WLAF gave New York a franchise so there would be a large market in the United States. The Knights provided excitement to the league when Mouse Davis brought his run and shoot offense to the league. RB Eric Wilkerson led the league in both rushing and touchdowns in the 1991 season. The team is known as the New York-New Jersey Knights because fans in New Jersey wanted a team to call their own. Since Giants Staduim is in New Jersey, the team added the New Jersey to its name.
