THE GLORIOUS INTERNATIONAL GAMES
Now it looks like Maccabee Haifa can defeat absolutely any team in Europe. The victories
over Sturm Graz and Olympiakos came as natural, the glorious victory over Manchester
United was indeed sensational, but a loss of all the points to Bayer Leverkusen, the
European Vice-Champions of 2001-02, came as a huge disappointment in the light of the
games Haifa delivered.
But before the turning point of 2002-03 (and before the glorious European season of Hapoel
Tel-Aviv a year before), the victories of the Israelis in the European Cups were somewhat
exotic. Here come the descriptions of some of the games that made history indeed.
