Coleraine 8 Drummond 4
Craig Memorial North-West Cup Semi-Final
Monday 23 December 1996

David McCallan was the 5-goal hero in this convincing performance in front of a meagre Monday Night crowd who opted to watch the Liverpool-Newcastle game on TV rather than to come out into the cold for a North-West Cup semi against junior opposition. In truth, the match was arranged at short notice so as to eat up Brendan Aspinall's suspension and leave him available for Boxing Day's trip to Crusaders.

Drummond opened the scoring when former Bannsider Harry Love netted from close range, but Eamon Doherty soon equalised and David McCallan scored twice to give the home side a 3-1 advantage. Love then reduced the deficit with his second goal of the evening, before McCallan completed his hat-trick shortly before ther interval.

The first score of the second half went to Coleraine substitute Gary Bowness, before another ex-Coleraine man Geoff Ferris made the score 5-3. This was followed by another McCallan double and Alan Tosh completed the scoring for Drummond.
