Coleraine 0 Omagh Town 2
Craig Memorial North-West Cup Final
Monday 24 February 1997

Omagh Town deservedly retained the North-West cup in a dull clash with a severly understrength Coleraine side in front of a paltry crowd on a wet and windy Showgrounds night.

Coleraine were virtaully unrecognisable from the table-topping Irish League outfit, with only Brendan Aspinall, Stephen Young and Conor McKeever from the regular first team on duty. The game had been arranged at short notice, with the primary aim of using up Greg O'Dowd's suspension so that he will be available for Saturday's crunch game at Linfield, and Kenny Shiels took the opportunity to run his eye over an number of reserves. The goals came either side of half time, with the first a cheeky backheel from close range by John Crilly after Davy O'Hare had dropped a corner in the swirling wind. The clinching goal came after 72 minutes when a long through ball split the Coleraine defence and Frankie Wilson raced through to score.

Coleraine fashionned few chances, the best of which was squandered by Brendan Aspinall when he headed Conor McKeever's cross into the side netting with the visiting goalkeeper well beaten.
