"For Pablo"

Did I ever tell you
How much I admire you?
Did I ever tell you
How much I wanted to be you?
What I wouldn't have given
To just once have been
Just another face in practice,
Shouting out answers to a computer screen,
And not having to worry about
Being "This year's Adam Seipp. . ."
Because that's what was expected.
To just be another techie at rehearsal
And be able to get my work done
In relatively uninterrupted peace,
And not have to worry about solving
Everyone else's little problems. . .
Because it falls under your jurisdiction.
Did I ever tell you
How lucky I thought you were
To be able to go out as just one of the gang,
And not have to be the leader,
Or Courtney's "football genius,"
Or handle the money. . .
Because that's the way it always was.
Did I ever tell you
How much your friendship means to me. . .
Did I ever tell you. . .
Well, I can tell you now,
Without apprehension
Or fear of embarrassment,
That I love you. . .

Like the brother I've never had.
