The Nordic Bout

When Färjestads BK, reigning Swedish Champions, take on HIFK today a lot more than just the three EHL points will be on stake. The rivalry between Finland and Sweden will fire up the players. Färjestad is a well skating and tactically solid team with several top class individuals on its roster. Their only weakness might lie in the lack of physical players and goaltending. The top line lead by Jörgen Jönsson (brother of Kenny of the Islanders) is the soul of the team. He gets good assistance by small, but deadly sniper Pelle Prestberg, last years sensation in Elitserien. Prestberg is a born goalscorer who won the goalscoring title last year. Färjestad lost their Jarkko Ruutu, Peter Nordström to the NHL, his spot is filled by Niklas Sjökvist. Sjökvist leads the internal scoring league of Färjestad. The 2nd line includes two Norwegian imports Tore Vingstad and Trond Magnussen centered by prospect Kristian Huselius. Interestingly enough third line center Mathias Johansson is the only player joining Jönsson on the Swedish national team roster for the "Karjala-Cup". On the fourth line Färjestad uses its U-20 prospects, but due to injuries they are likely to use only three lines. The heart of defence Roger Johansson (ex-Blackhawk) is injured again, but the defence corps include Greger Artursson (scored Championship winner last spring) , Dimitri Erofeev, Sergei Fokin and Radek Hamr, on loan from Frölunda. The goaltending rests on ex-TPS Kimmo Lecklin who´ll have a tough time living up to predecessors Boris Rousson and Markus Ketterer, both of them living legends in Karlstad. In order to win we need to take advantage of all our scoring chances and physical defensive play with no errors.
