Meghan & Dave watch the compulsory dances and men's short programs, Dave falls into a shmooze void then makes the find of the week, becoming everyone's hero!

Woke up in a void. I wanted to go to the compulsory dances.

So, was there bright and early at 8:30 am for the CD's yay!! Pretty sparse crowd at first, but people kept filing in as the morning progressed. Still, we were able to claim fab seats close to the ice on the long end of the arena on the judges side. Group B, which started first , was the most densely populated with top skaters: Fusar-Poli & Margaglio, Lobacheva & Averbukh, Bourne & Kraatz, & Winkler & Lohse. Poor Naomi & Peter were in this group, bad politiks for the CD's! They started out with the Rhumba. Very good costume wise for the men. Many latin style open chest shirts WHEEE!!!! Was very happy to see PPT Peter wearing a version of his silver samba shirt. YAY!

Next was the Tango Romantica. That pretty much concludes my notes for Group B LOLOL (once again you can refer to Emma Abraham's reports LOL) All I know is that it took an endless amount of time for the music for these dances to ever leave my head. Thank god it wasn't the year of the Yankee polkas.

After Group B finished a major break was in order. Left the arena and walked to the international village's food court for some non arena food. Ended up missing the first few Group A's Rhumba. We did get there in time to see A & P and C & S for the rhumba and everyone else for the Tangos. I called Dave a warrior as we figured he'd made it through 60 out of 70 CD's LOLOL

Ran into Sharpie and Tara sometime during this and plans were made to meet up with them later at the Hyatt.

Next up, the Men's short programs. Wheeee! I'd really been looking forward to hearing Restencourt's music in the arena, as he was skating to music from the Matrix soundtrack. Wish he could have done something better with it, but oh well LOL Tried to get everyone in my section to develop an appreciation for voidy Stanick Jeannette :-) I think this was the last we'd see of Dolfini and I think he tried to make the most of it with the crowd. I seem to remember that Yags rallied, yay! Elvis crashed and burned. ( at this point, Dave was predicting nothing good for team Canada.. and the phrase O Can't-ada may have been uttered) It may have been during the short program that Yunfei Li was having a fantastic skate, nailing everything, tiffing it up and his music stopped ARGHHHH!! Gave him a good in with the crowd though, and he kept that all week :-) Poor Gregor Urbas, this was the last we'd see of him on ice, he finished dead last :-(

Back to the hotel to tiff up my hair and change clothes (YAY!!) before we headed off to the Hyatt.

I think it was around this time that I started hearing that Tricia was looking for me. Last I'd heard, she wasn't coming. I didn't have computer access in Vancouver, so I didn't know her plans had changed. Somehow the network of skating net folks came through though, yay! We'd be able to have our 5 person official Gallery get together after all LOL

At the Hyatt bar we met up with Sharon and Tara and some new people as well, Jenny and Neil. Fab & Rik joined us after they had dinner. On the way outside, or back in LOL Sharon, Tara and I ran into Todd guru, Fran Buhman. I mentioned I'd seen her on Oprah so we got to hear all the details. Todd and entourage were walking around and Tara tried to pull her over to talk to them, but she mentioned that she'd bugged them enough earlier in the day LOL

Meanwhile Dave had been showing our truly bad skating snapshots to everyone. At one point, I ran into Dave and he told me he'd been talking business and such with some guy. He showed me the man's card and it was Morry Stillwell's PML Dave told me he'd been talking to him and his buddy Vladimir for some time, probably even showing them our skating photos. Went over with Dave and got introduced and spoke to them for awhile, heard some interesting stuff about how they'd been friends even during the Cold War even though they were both "watched" during skating competitions. So Dave got his picture taken with Morry and Vladimir YAY! Then Morry offered to ask his friend Todd if he'd have a picture taken with Dave, too. Unfortunately Morry wandered off before I could get him to be in the pic, too. So it's just Dave and Todd. I think Dave showed our skating pics to Todd, too ROFL

Jenny was being chatted up by Steve Milton, so I met him as well. I think James Cowling from iskater.com was there too. I'm thinking I met him that night, hard to say as I pretty much saw these 2 all week. Met Mishy who later introduced Sharon, Tara and I to an Ice theater of New York person and was told that Mishy had an extra invitation to the IFS reception for later in the week that he'd give to Sharon LOL

I'm sure Dave chatted up some other people, too. LOL We were both sort of mingling with different people. At one point, I looked up and he was putting his coat on. I asked where he was going and he said " I don't know" That was the last I'd hear from him for awhile. I figured he was walking Fab & Rik back to their hotel and would come back later.

Well, had more fun at the bar with everyone else and closed the place down. No Dave in sight. I'd been ditched LOLOL Shared a taxi with Sharon and went back to my hotel. Suprisingly, still no Dave. I drifted off to sleep and the phone rang at 3AM.

"Meghan, I've been looking for you all over! I went back to the Hyatt and the bar was closed. Then I went to the Pinnacle and you weren't there either. So I'm at the Crime Lab!"

Huh? I knew that this was a set up and there really was nothing police like or crime-worthy about the "Crime Lab" So I waited.

"Yeah, I'm at the Crime Lab! I was looking for you in all the bars and they were closed, so the people at the Pinnacle sent me here. Should I come back? Do you want to come? I met a lot of great people and they are buying me beers! They closed all the blinds an hour ago but we can stay here for as long as we want!" PML!!

I gave Dave the official wifely permission for him to stay. ;) I went back to sleep.I think he got in about 5 AM LOLOL
